Remarks
Management is not the best I would say, but efforts for its improvisation is being made. Regular rotations in the top posts is being made in order to get the best suited candidate on those levels who could bring the best reforms in the campus.
Entrance Preview
AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Examination) was the examination that landed me up in NIT Jalandhar. I bagged a score of 166 and an All India Rank of 29012. It was the 50% Home State Quota that got me a seat in Industrial and Production trait. As per the pre-admission reviews, the Institute seemed quite decent. The placements (which used to be the foremost criteria to choose a college) were actually nice and the campus seemed great. Moreover, it was close to my place of dwelling.
Course Curriculum Overview
Industrial and Production Engineering actually focus on subjects of Mechanical as well as Management and the faculty and curriculum fully justified the time I spent there. The subjects were actually really interesting and it was fun attending classes.
Internships Opportunities
A few companies visit campus for the mandatory pre-final year training/internship and pick up a handful of students from all branches. For rest of the students, finding a company is not that hard of a deal especially when you are backed up with the tag of National Institute of Technology.
Placement Experience
The placement percentage is pretty high. More than 90% of the eligible candidates get placed genuinely and most of them are actually happy with the job profile and package. EXCEPTIONS DO EXIST! Nonetheless, about a couple hundred of companies visit the campus in the placement season. The average package remained in close proximity to 5 LPA with the highest packages going to Computer Science and Engineering students.
College Events
Events and fests are an integral part of this college. Regular events happen here, mostly organized by the students. Permissions are a bit of pain, but then again, faculty does help you out in one way or the other. Talking about fests, the following list might help.techNITi: Annual Techno-Managerial fest. Utkansh: Annual Cultural fest.Other than these, annual sports day, Institute foundation day, and numerous other things are celebrated. POLITICS DOES EXIST!
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is directly governed by the MHRD and is more or less, same across all the NITs. It was kinda inexpensive during my time but eventually, the fee rose when MHRD passed new standards for IITs and NITs a few years back. Nonetheless, loan facility is easy to avail, thanks to the brand value. In all, you can complete your Engineering in under INR 8 Lacs (including Hostel and Mess fees) as of now.
Fees and Financial Aid
The college doesn't offer or help in loan facilities by itself but you can avail it from any nearby bank. There are two banks inside the campus itself that would also help you availing this facility. You would initially have to go through a few hassles. Regular scholarship schemes are also launched but most of them are for the reserved candidates or for students belonging to a particular state.
Campus Life
Gender ratio is improving by the day. There are about 250 girls in comparison to every 1000 guys. Not the best ratio I would say, but it is increasing with the new batches. Life is nice only if you want to stay inside the campus. The campus is actually in the outskirts and you would have to travel for about 10 kms to reach the populated area of the city, Public transport is available. There are a lot of co-curricular societies a student can enroll himself in. Labs are not the best and nor is the imparted practical knowledge.
Hostel Facilities
If you are a guy and get those older hostels, you are going to abuse the authorities. But if you are lucky enough to land up in the newly built hostels, you will probably enjoy your time here. Though the conditions of these newly built hostels are also worsening by the day. A similar condition pertains for girls as well but in addition to your luck, you will also have to suffer from lack of rooms in that case because the hostels cannot just accommodate the increasing number.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni Network is building and has established quite a decent database in the past few years. Needless to say that the networks are improving and the efforts of the students and faculty to build this network is surely proving fruitful. There sustains a good relationship between senior and junior batches. Most of the seniors are always ready to help.
Exam Structure
In the 8 semesters of Engineering, for each Semester, the following exam pattern was followed.Minor 1: 1 Hour Examination of each subject; 20 marks each.Minor 2: 1 hour Examination of each subject; 20 marks each.Major: 3 hour examination of each subject; 50 marks each. The score adds up to 90. 10 marks are rendered as "Internal Assessment" and are dependent on class performance, assignments and stuff. At least that's what our teachers used to say!
Faculty
The departmental facility did understand the student's situation and supported them through thick and thin. They counselled the students pretty well and supported their interest despite of them being not related to academics. Exceptions were always there but they can be ignored in comparison to the number of understanding faculty.
