Remarks

Overall an okay experience, but the inclination of faculty to provide practical insight needs to be improved.

Entrance Preview

Maharashtra State Board HSC exam. The selection process in 2002 was centralized with a single all maharashtra list for admissions to engineering streams. In this list, I was offered this college and I accepted it.

Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

The elective were arrificial intelligence, robotics, compiler construction and only in the last semester. The first year is common with total of 16 papers you need to clear. The specialization starts from year 3 with exclusively computer science topics. The course was standardized by University of Mumbai.

Internships Opportunities

No it does not provide any internships. Only graduate level courses are offered. Hence no question of stipend.

Placement Experience

1.5

Placements are on the lower side. Less popular employers come to the campus. In our days CMC, CMS, Mahindra British Telecom, Wipro, Bluestar etc used to come and their focus would only be candidates with 70% minimum marks throughout. Some companies would tone down to 60%, but there was no guarantee that selection would grant you a job offer.

College Events

3.5

College festival was an annual event called Fusion in which there were several talent shows, quizes, practical project competitions, stage performance events, etc. There were also sports events and other cultural events such as cricket, football matches and various days such as rose day, traditional day, etc.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure in our days was cheap. Only rs. 10000 for free seat and payment seat would require around rs. 50k annual fees. This has inflated to 80 k to 1 lakh now. The college has a good library with various reference books on engineering and management. The library fees were meagre compared to the collection and benefit provided.

Fees and Financial Aid

In our days no one actually took educational loan engineering college admissions. There were no scholarships provided.

Campus Life

2.5

Girl to boy ratio was around 80 20 in 2002 even for streams like computer science and electronics. There was very limited fun ragging on first few days for newcomers. Students were from mixed backgrounds, Punjabi, Sindhi, Kashmiri, Maharashtrians, Keralites etc.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

No hostel facilities were provided. There was a canteen with limited cheap menu such as wada pav, samosa, dosa, meal etc at inexpensive rates. The quality of food was meagre, but we would often bring our own tiffins to have lunch in the college. There were some external vendors who independently provided food such as colas and fast food, chinese etc. But these were not reliable and hence not used a lot by students.

Alumni/Alumna

No experience with alumni network much. There was no such scheme or network facility provided by the college.

Exam Structure

Exam structure was hectic with almost 6 to 8 subjects every semester. Lab work was not that high, but vivas were stressful. Assignments were very stressful as well. Engineeing drawing assignments, workshops were chilled out. Exam times were very stressful and there was a trend of taking quick crash courses from Vidyalankar or Vidyasagar or private professors. Exam times and result times were sleepless periods.

Admission

The selection process in 2002 was centralized with a single all maharashtra list for admissions to engineering streams based on your marks in PCM. In this list, I was offered this college and I accepted it. The notification was done through a central channel of Maharashtra State Govt and the place then was VJTI and SP college the two govt owned colleges.

Faculty

2.5

The faculty was well qualified and researched. Almost all lecturers were post graduate in engineering disciplines with good theoretical knowledge of subjects. However, practical knowledge and industry experience was lacking. This was across all years and all streams. Students are likely to find the topics more interesting if they are able to correlate their significance in the industry or practical world. This was not a part of the discussions.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course because I have genuine interest in civil engineering. The faculty student ration is 1:50. Our faculties are well qualified they are master's degree holders in design and structural engineering. Some of them are PhD holders and many of them have done their master's from NIT and IIT. Term exams are scheduled after every 2 months. it is easy to pass because it consists of 30 marks only.
