Remarks
Ranked top in mechanical engineering and one of the top 5 colleges in India at the time. Could avail of the home-state quota at the time instead of opting for the other college for engineering that I got through state CET (BMSCE). Admission date was Jule 23rd and process was done within an hour and was called rank wise and asked to select the programs of choice in order. I got selected in chemical engineering branch but later was internally slid to mechanical during the further rounds of counselling. This college was the only that had a private beach and was reputed in the state considering I did most of my studies in Bangalore.
Course Curriculum Overview
Mechanical engineering was ranked one of the highest in India in terms of course content, professor quality, funding and placement. Faculty: student ~ 1:10. Great quality professors. All professors have a PhD and were well-experienced in their fields. They motivated students to do projects under them and publish papers. Exams were timed well with quizzes (3), mid-sem-1, and an end sem exam. They were scored based on a percentile system (bell-curve) and graded on a 10 point scale. Most exams were easy to pass provided on payed attention in class.
Placement Experience
You become eligible by the 7th semester. At least 40 companies came for placement as far as mechanical was concerned. 99% placement was the going rate at the time. The highest package was I guess USD 200k offered by Microsoft and Google.
Fees and Financial Aid
Cost to study was very reasonable. My 4 years of study including mess and hostel cost me INR 320k. Scholarships are available for candidates from financially backward, SC/ST. Financial assistance in terms of interest-free loans is easy to procure via nationalised banks like SBI, Canara on campus.
Campus Life
Annual tech fest and cultural fests had students from colleges around India participate. They were times when one would spend sleepless nights to put up events- everything student-run- eliciting sponsorships to running the show to awarding the prizes. I was part of student SAE, IEEE, IE, Entrepreneurship cell among other clubs which were all interactive and had a great amount of knowledge gain associated. The library is HUGE. Has a vast collection of all books that you will need for your course. The digital library is an added benefit with access paid journals and software. Classrooms all have fitted projectors and required audio enhancers. The benches were quite comfortable (though they were really old, old is gold, I suppose!) 5. The college has a huge football ground with a sitting gallery, indoor badminton, TT, chess, carrom, a full-size swimming pool, basket ball courts and tennis courts.
Hostel Facilities
Each room came with a cot, table, chair and cupboard with a lock to keep your things. Mess quality was great with good variety (for the south Indian palate). Easy and transparent registration and fee payment system is done online.
