Remarks
1st of all it is NIT. National Institute Of Technology an institute of National Importance. I got the Electronics and Communication branch here and placements are really good here in this branch. Admission is done on the basis of JEE MAINS exam rank. As soon as JEE Advanced rank is out counselling starts for both NIT's and IIT's. Counselling is done by JOSAA. Firstly choice filling is done. Then we have to report at the NIT whenever a seat is alloted to us in the process. Electronics branch here has very good placements. Big tech giants like Microsoft, Amazon, Adobe, UHG visit campus for recruitment. Average package is 9 lacs. Infrastructure is very good. But the bad thing is the course curriculum is old and not up to industry requirements. Students learn their own skills required in the industry. The only reason I preferred this college is because of NIT tag and also overall college is good whether it is infrastructure, college life, faculty or placements. So I am happy with my college.
Course Curriculum Overview
I choose this course because I had a keen interest in how communication systems, mobiles etc. works. I came to know that I will get my answers to these questions in Electronics And Communication Engineering. So I chose Electronics and Communication branch. Faculty to student ratio is pretty good. There are specialised teachers for each field. Teachers are very helpful. Every teacher is a PhD from prestigious colleges. They are working on many big projects and also give students the opportunity to work with them and gain experience. Every teacher has a very good way of delivering knowledge and clears all the doubts of students whether it is in classes, tuts or labs. Now comes exams! Exams are very frequent in NIT Jalandhar. There are two minors in a semester. Each minor is 20 marks and marks of both minors are added to the final result. There is one major of 50 marks and 10 marks are given through assessment. A student needs 40 marks for passing and getting 40 is no easy task sometimes.
Internships Opportunities
Companies visiting on campus for internships are very less. Companies visiting for internships are Goldman Sachs, Amazon, Microsoft, DE Shaw, Samsung and Standard Chartered. Almost 30 students get the internships on campus. Stipend ranges from 20k to 100k for these companies. Rest all apply for off-campus opportunities like in ISRO, startups or other off-campus hiring competitions. In college, there are very fewer opportunities available for students.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for placements after 6th semester i.e. in 7th semester. Major Companies visiting college are Microsoft, Amazon, Samsung, Honda R&D, ZS Associate, DE Shaw, L&T, OYO, Accolite, Accenture, Delloite, TCS and many more. No. of offers made last year was approx 500. The highest package offered was 43 lacs by Microsoft and the average package was 8.5 lacs. Percentage of a student getting placed is 77% for the whole college. In ECE, CSE these average packages and percentage of students placed are both high than normal. Also, there are many paid internships opportunities for 5th-semester students as well with stipends up to 1 lacs as well in companies like Adobe, Samsung, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs etc.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees for my course are 1.7 lacs for college and 50000 in the hostel mess. College Fees goes constant for 4 years. Every year fees are increased for Ist year. Other cost includes a laptop, mobile purchase etc or assignments or travelling etc. Students are given concession based on their family income. If family income is below 1 lacs concession on whole tution fees is given (1.25 lacs). There is also some concession (70%) approx. for students with family income between 1-5 lacs on tution fees. There are also many other scholarships for reserved categories. Some reserved category students are also given scholarships for purchase of a laptop. There are also many scholarships provided by Alumni's. Student can also work in startups running inside the campus or freelancing for extra money. There is also a trend for these things. Many companies also come for hiring interns which gives handsome stipends or other facilities also with a chance to get PPO also.
Campus Life
There are 2 big tech fests- Utkansh and Techniti. Utkansh is a cultural fest and Techniti is tech fest. Utkansh is generally conducted in March and Techniti in November. The library is pretty good and contains all books of need. Sitting arrangement is also good but it can be better. Lecture theatres are awesome. They are newly made and have a central cooling system. Benches, blackboards, green board, projector and LED all are there in each Lecture theatre. Classrooms are also very clean and we have cushioned seats in lecture theatres. The facility of almost each and every sport is available on campus whether it is outdoor or indoor sports. There is a student activity centre which has a gym, 24 hr canteen, table tennis, music room or many other things also. A whole building for student's activities. There are many social groups and clubs made by students operating on the campus like Developer Students Club, Coding Club, Kalakaar, Media Cell, SAARC, SI crew, Criminalz, Linkedin Local or many other also.
Hostel Facilities
Facilities provided in each room are a bed, chair, table and almirah. You have to share a room until 3rd year. Meal quality varies from hostel to hostel. Some hostels have very good food and some have just satisfactory food that you can eat for a living. BH1 has the best mess. The menu is made for a week and have all items included for health and taste. Hostel fees are paid with institute fees and mess fees are paid separately. Mess fee is 49000(per annum) which is somewhat costlier than other colleges. Mess fee is paid in advance for each semester i.e. 24500. Hostels are well maintained and washrooms are also cleaned daily. Cleaning facility for rooms is also available in some hostels.
