REVIEW OF IHM CHENNAI

I chose this college based on the face value, IHM has been here for a very long time and has a good reputation among Hotel management colleges. The staffs are very knowledgeable and have good experience in their field of expertise. This college promises 100% placement for all UG students great number of companies come for placement companies coming in to recruit is not limited to hotels and catering companies but other companies which requires marketing executives. Something very interesting in this course is the 4 month industrial training the students go through, the students are recruited by hotels and if you're performance is good there then there's a good chance of you getting placed in that hotel chain's property.

Curriculum is vast but not burdening to the student in anyway. This is the right amount of subjects. It covers everything related to a hotel. The faculty members are very knowledgeable and have had many years experience in their field of expertise. But the college culture is sub-par senior students act like teachers and essentially harrass juniors which is not good and the teachers don't want to take any action. The infrastructure is extremely poor it could be improved by a mile all the equipments are old or out of order buildings and toilets are not maintained properly.

Students attend an internship in their 2nd year and are eligible for placement in their 3rd year which is the final year. Most of the hotel chains come for recruitment eg. Taj group Itc group etc. the average salary package is 3,00,000 per annum. My plans after getting the degree is to work in the kitchen.

There are no clubs but there are food fests which are entertaining but other than that nothing significant. The food fests are organised by the students and are run by the students there are several events like dancing singing DJ. Each year the food feast is based on a particular cuisine or cuisines for example the last food feast's theme was kashmiri cuisine the students and staffs from ihm kashmiri came to ihm Chennai campus as guests.

Financial assistance is available to students who can't afford the fees but there is no written price hike policy. The fees is comparatively less for students from sc/st quota and there are also financial assistance provided for students who can't afford the fees. The fees structure is relatively similar every year but the fees amount changes from year to year.

There are two hostels for boys and one for girls the new hostel for boys is comparatively new so it's good inside but the hostel mess food is average to sometimes below average

Yes we had a joint entrance exams for admissions. Its called IHM JEE it's generally held during the month of march or april and the college starts by june. The students are required to travel to their nearest examination centre and take up a mcq exam which tests the general knowledge and problem solving skills of the students, this is essentially an aptitude test. And the results are announced after a month based on your rank you get your admission.
