Remarks
If you want best academic, PDPU has it. If you want some education and some college life enjoyment, PDPU has it. If you want to grow your career just in sports but want to be graduated with less efforts in academics, PDPU has it. If you want pure enjoyment of college life, no education then also PDPU is best in it. But make sure that you or your family are able to pay fees and expenses easily.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum is very well structured and suitable for best knowledge of particular subject. But half of the times, it is felt that faculties are not much into it. Sometimes they leave some topics or just exclude them whenever they want. Research opportunities are by far very well provided to students. Students are encouraged to research and publish papers right from the 2nd year itself. University grants funds for students to go to publish papers in India as well as abroad too. University provides you 50% funds for this purpose. It is obvious that graduation students are not much aware of these things, but university has done it perfectly. University organizes Industry visits in later half of 2nd year. Students are taken to a full day industry visits. University bears all the expenses, however they had got those expenses as fees earlier.
Placement Experience
There is a dedicated Career Development Cell in college, which stays connected to industries just for Internship and placement purposes. In the beginning of 4th year, they start calling companies for campus placements. They give prior notice to students to register for their preferred company and then students can sit in interviews. They also bring companies that provide just quality Internship to students. Big companies like TCS, Infosys and Wipro come every year for placement. They get mass placements from all branches with general pay, although they take students for specific job positions with higher pay.
College Events
To be honest, PDPU is the most famous university in Gujarat for its events and festivals. There are total 3 main committees for different events. Under each committee, there are many working groups and clubs. 3 main committees are Science & Technical (S&T), Cultural and Sports. Technical festival is held in October every year. Sports Festival comes in every February whereas April has Cultural Festival. All festivals are celebrated for 3-5 days. All universities and colleges across the state are invited. Musical nights and Navratri festivals are the centre of attraction across the city.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fees for graduation in PDPU is the highest amongst all universities of the state. Hostel fees are 88,500 per year excluding food. Mess service costs 45,000 per year. Graduation in Engineering costs around 1,50,000 annually. Electricity bills for the hostel are to be paid separately. As it is far from city, transportation expenses can ruin your budget. I would say Engineering in PDPU may cost you around 5 lakh per year.
Fees and Financial Aid
PDPU gives you scholarship but only if you maintain your SPIs. I got scholarship in 1st semester based on my JEE Rank. If you have JEE Rank under 20000, you'll be given 1st semester tuition fees as a President's Fellowship. In upcoming semesters, if you're able to maintain 8 SPIs each time, the Fellowship will be continued. State quota students will be provided scholarships based on their state merit list rank. 2nd year onwards, first 7 students from a class based on Semester results will get full tuition fees as a scholarship.
Campus Life
Campus life of PDPU is just awesome. Full green campus and vast area of campus leaves you in state of peace. Evenings are the most beautiful here. You can just roam around campus, watch sports game going on or just sit and relax under bare sky. Students are from all across the Gujarat and India. You will find some international students and researchers in the university as well. Students are majorly from Gujarat. But there are many students from Rajasthan, M.P, Mumbai, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi as well. South African students are here to study Petroleum engineering. Around 5000 students study in PDPU and sex ratio is 50:50. There are no student body or elections to be held. That culture is not promoted by PDPU, however it is necessary I guess.
Hostel Facilities
I opted hostel facilities during all 4 years if my Engineering. PDPU boys hostel and PDPU high raise hostel are no less than 3 star hotels. Room occupancy is 2 in PDPU boys hostel. Room cleaning is done everyday. There are common washrooms, but it is not issue as everything can settle down gradually. Hostel campus is clean and neat. Smoking and drinking are prohibited but smokers and drinkers can get access of whatever they want very easily. If you just ignore it, you won't mind staying in hostel. Canteens in hostels run through the days for snacks. But you will get hot snacks only during evening hours. 10 pm is the locking time of hostel. You must enter before 10, otherwise your college ID card will be detained. Day and night wardens, IT guy, housekeeper guy and an ambulance are on the move everytime.
Alumni/Alumna
An alumnus portal is run by PDPU authorities where every past students stay connected. Every year alumni meet is held, where every alumnus gather online or offline to remember and cherish their graduation memories. Alumnus are also very much helpful to students in many terms like education, advices, career and placements.
Admission
I got admission from All India Quota as I had decent JEE marks. The process for registration starts in mid June. Students can apply and submit marks, preferred branch/es and details till end of June. In beginning weeks of July, the counseling starts. Based on registration, a merit list is prepared on the basis of JEE marks for All India quota. Student has to go to university on specified date. Then based on your merit rank and students present during counseling, a student will be offered his/her 1st preferred branch. If the seats in 1st preferred branch are full, then the 2nd and so on. If one is eligible for his/her 1st preferred branch, he/she won't be allowed to get admission into other applied branches.
Faculty
Not a single faculty is low qualified. All of them are having at least Master's degree. I would say that half of the current faculties are doing Ph.D. in the university itself. They are well aware of subject knowledge and open to students as well. To give industry specific knowledge, many times an industry expert is called to share useful knowledge of industries.
