Entrance Preview
The entrance examination that you need to take to get into MNIT, Jaipur for a B.Tech course is the JEE-Mains (Formerly AIEEE). The cutoffs are insanely high for the top branches like Computers and Mechanical, even for the reserved categories and you need to score high to expect a good branch. I scored 229/360 but since at my time the 12th scores were also factored in, I ended up getting Chemical over here.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course structure is pretty well organised and is never too heavy over the students. Although you cannot expect much industrial exposure or research work on the Undergraduate level, there are state-of-the-art research facilities available for the Post-Graduate and PHD students.
Internships Opportunities
The college does not provide paid internships within the premises but one can always work free of cost if one wants to do a good project over here. As for the students of the college itself, opportunities for foreign research interns are provided to the high GPA students which are highly paid and some companies recruit students for paid internships too.
Placement Experience
According to last year figures, around 51 students got placements in Civil Branch, 78 in Chemical, 89 in Computer Science, 103 in Electronics, 91 in Electrical, 68 in Metallurgy, 99 in Mechanical and 87 in other PG courses. The highest pay package offered was that of Rs. 21 LPA to 6 B.Tech. Students of Computer Engineering and Information Technology.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure was quite feasible when I joined in- Rs. 26000 per sem including all college expenses, Hostel and mess- Rs. 18000 per sem. But due to the recent fee hike in all NITs by the government, the annual tuition fee alone has become Rs. 1,25000 which is expensive even from a private college standards.
Fees and Financial Aid
The scholarships are mostly available to Category students, almost all of them actually. Still, there are one or two scholarships available for the insanely brilliant students having 9.5+ GPAs. Rest of the things, one has to manage on his/her own. Loans are of course available and people from State Bank of India and ICICI bank are always there during the admission process.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni network is although helpful but it is still growing. The Alumni Committee has had good financial backing but the results are still to show. There are events to celebrate 35 years of a batch every year but as far as help in placements or getting internships is concerned, the Alumni are least bothered.
Exam Structure
The exam structure is two semesters per year and each semester consists of 2 Mid-Term exams and 1 End Term Exam. As such, there is little that you have to study for each exam. The exams are NEVER out-of-course and all the relevant topics that one would expect would be covered in the course structure itself.
Faculty
The Faculty of the college is divided between those who have earned tenure/have become 'indispensable' for the college and those that are newly appointed. On a general basis, although all the teachers are well qualified, the new ones are generally more committed to teaching while the old ones have become complacent.
