Remarks
I chose to attend IIFT Delhi because it is one of the most reputed institutions in the country. Along with the regular subjects, International Trade is one of the specialized subjects that IIFT offers to its students. It is also known for its excellent placements which was a major draw. I had spoken to a couple of alumni from IIFT and their thoughts about the college encouraged me to go ahead with my decision.
Course Curriculum Overview
IIFT follows a trimester system with different subjects for every trimester, this ensures a holistic education. IIFT is known for its rigorous academic curriculum. The faculty uses different teaching and evaluation criteria including but not limited to classroom presentations, case studies, assignments, activities, quizzes and surprise tests to keep students on their toes. Most of the faculty is easily approachable and encourage questions and doubts during class. Apart from this, students are also supposed to undergo a Social Awareness Programme where they volunteer with an NGO as a part of the course.
Internships Opportunities
The average stipend for summer internships last year was around 2,20,000. With various different companies coming for different roles, the internships are very promising for the students. Internship opportunities are available both off and on campus.
Placement Experience
IIFT is known for achieving 100 percent placements every year. IIFT has some big name recruiters like GS, Bajaj, Microsoft, ITC, Dabur, etc that come to campus for placements in roles ranging from marketing to finance.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees for the batch of 2020-2022 are Rs 8,8,85,000. There is a scholarship available for students based on the merit of the IIFT exam scores. I am not entirely sure about any other scholarships available for the students.
Campus Life
It is a student run college so there are plenty of clubs, cells and committees one can be a part of and if not that then one can actively participate in the events conducted by them all year round. The annual cultural fest is known as Quo Vadis and the business conclave is called Trade Winds.
Hostel Facilities
Since our first year has been entirely online, we haven't had the opportunity to visit and stay on campus. IIFT has three hostels - OH (Old Hostel for first-year students), C9 (Boys Hostel) and NH (New Hostel for second-year students). The hostels have an occupancy of 2/3 students sharing the rooms.
Interview Experience
There is a GD/PI/WAT process for selecting students. It takes place in the month of February typically in two slots, i.e: morning and evening slot. My WAT topic was "Fake News" for which we were given around 20/25 minutes to write. The topic for my GD was "Should railways be privatized?". All of this was a smooth experience for me. The interview was taken by a panel of three and the interview itself took 15 minutes for me.
