Great Experience

I chose Dr. Gaur Hari Singhania Institute of Management and Research as it was one of the best institute providing with PGDM program in Kanpur. It is approved by AICTE and is recognized as equivalent to MBA by AIU. It has highly qualified faculty who have certifications from Pennsylvania University, Cornell University and IIM-B. It provides with dual specialization. This college also provides with an International Industrial Study tour. The college also provides with excellent placements. Students with minimum 50% marks in graduation are eligible for the program. They must have taken one of the management entrance exams such as CAT, MAT, etc. The reason for preferring this college was that it provides with dual specialization which enables us to excel in both the fields and get placed in a good company. The international industrial tour helps in learning about the intricacies of the operations of manufacturing facilities and their organizational structure.

This college provides with PGDM program which is equivalent to MBA by AIU. This program helps in getting dual specialization. The faculty is highly qualified from prestigious institutions and have certifications from Pennsylvania University, Cornell University (USA), MIT (USA) and IIM-B. The faculty not only focus on the academics but the overall development of the students. They make the students understand the concepts and also the practical applicability of these concepts. Live projects, Summer Internships and Final Research Projects are given which help the students to understand the working of the corporates on first hand basis. The college runs the program on a trimester basis and each term is around two and a half to three months which is followed by examinations. The first three trimesters focus on developing the basic knowledge of different fields and the rest helps get advanced knowledge of the chosen fields. The exams test the student's ability to apply the concepts.

The college provides both on and off campus internship opportunities. But as we were hit by the Covid pandemic, the college came up with a new idea of SIP under the faculty members in which we had to select a topic and do all the research on the same and make a report. This helped us learn a lot. Companies like Decathalon and Lohia Corp come for the internship program.

The students are eligible for placements in the second year of the program. Many companies have visited the campus like FinEgde, PWC, Infollion, XL Dynamics, etc. and around 8 offers have been made. The highest package offered was Rs.8,00,000 by Jaro Education and the college provides an average package of Rs.3,00,000. I plan to get placed in one of the companies coming in for on-campus placements.

The program fees are Rs.6,30,000 which includes the cost of the International Industrial Study tour. The college provides scholarship on the basis of three different criterion Qualifying exams CAT/XAT, Academic Qualification and Defense Background. The student can get a scholarship of up to Rs.75,000. It provides easy educational loans as well. The average package is Rs.3,00,000. Students are placed in companies like XL Dynamics and Infollion with a package o0f around Rs.4,00,000.

The college hosts events like Humanource, HR Summit and Alumni meet every year. It also has various clubs like Niche Club, IB Club, Finance Club and Media Club which involves the students in various activities over the program and the students runs these clubs. The college has a library providing books on all the fields and also journals of Harvard, etc. The classrooms are air-conditioned and the whole campus is equipped with a free wifi facility. The campus provides with badminton court and gym room.

There was no GD round. The interview involved questions like tell me about yourself, your strengths and weakness. What do you know about college and why this college? The process was easy. Firstly, I was briefed about the program and about the college, then I had an interview with the Director who asked the above mentioned questions and also briefed about the PGDM program.
