Remarks
Management was not student friendly with fees hike anytime as per their choices. There was good unity among student community. Infrastructure was decent but not that great. It's been 7 years since I passed out from college so cannot comment about the current state.
Entrance Preview
I did my Diploma from Shreeram Polytechnic (MSBTE) and then filled the centralised Direct Second Year Engineering form and I was placed in this college through the system.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum was a standard one affiliated to Mumbai University for Engineering in Information Technology. There was not much preference given to Research and almost all subjects were theoretical with very little practical experience. There were some subject which do had practical application like Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and Image processing. Also, some of the subjects like eCommerce, Computer Simulation & Modelling were very interesting and helpful for today's market.
Internships Opportunities
No, there was no internship opportunities for students. Most of the students used to find out internship opportunities for themselves via contacts, relatives or friends.
Placement Experience
MGM was a Grade B college and not much companies used to come for placements. Also, the companies used to have high cut off criteria thus churning out most of the average students and only top 5% used to get selected. Also, the placement officers were not so attentive to make an effort to invite top IT companies for placements.
College Events
There were lost of cultural, technical and other events held in the college premises. The college had a very huge campus so lot of events used to take place. The Annual festival was greatly enjoyed by the student community. Also, Robotics competition used to happen in the premises. Also, sports competition was a hit among the students.
Fee Structure And Facilities
That was one point totally negative for MGM College of Engg & Technology. Fees were extremely expensive for a Grade B college and the management used to ask for money anytime they wished to. Example - One such case was during our third year, the management asked for 20K at the time of the final exam and did not allow students to sit if they did not pay the additional fees. This fumed many strikes during the times.
Fees and Financial Aid
No, I did not avail of any loan facility but the students from lower caste used to get their fees returned at the end of the year. This was a good point as it helped people from lower cast to take education in such an expensive college. Also, I guess there a loan facility available. Don't have the details.
Campus Life
As mentioned earlier, campus life was really chilled out. The campus was great so people used to hang around in the campus. The infrastructure was above average and college used to conduct a lot of extra curricular activities such as sports and robotics competitions, and talent competitions as well.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel and Mess facility was good from what I heard from my friends during the college days. I used to travel from Thane to Panvel every day so don't have a first hand experience of the hostel and mess facility. But what I heard from friends, it was pretty decent.
Alumni/Alumna
MGM has an average alumni network and I was contacted by a current student recently to help them with one of the projects. So I guess its good enough and seniors were helpful for most of the cases.
Exam Structure
It was chilled out with not much exams. There were some tests in between for students as part of internal marks but apart from that it was easy going. Also, internal marks depended on your rapport with the professor and not on the internal exams at all.
Faculty
Faculty was average with some of the professors par below average and some good. But there were none during my college days whom In could look upto or very knowledgeable in their respective subjects. Most of them just used to read out the textbooks and only be concerned about the syllabus and never used to go beyond that or be interactive with the students.
