Gauhati University - Commerce Department review

I really believe the toilets could be cleaner. At the present situation at least it is barely usable for anyone in my department. Air Conditioning is there but aren't really taken care of. Computer Lab has plenty of computers but few of them lie useless. The campus is beautiful and is pleasant through out the day with cool breeze blowing and trees everywhere. The staff overall can be really helpful in sorting things out for you. They are friendly and one for sure, you will never feel you are away from here.

The course curriculum is quite phenomenal. The course system is really good in the sense that the difficulty level increases gradually making the student go from an easier level to a sufficiently harder level which makes them learn the concepts clearly and efficiently. Even if someone is not familiar with the commerce courses, one can easily adapt. Exams are generally held twice a semester, namely, the mid semester exam or sessional exam and the final semester exam.

The placement and job opportunities are pretty good but not the best in Guwahati. They can attract the best of students with more appealing placements. As of now, I do not know of any internship program that my college provides.

Here are the few events that i would like to list that I have enjoyed thoroughly. They are - 1. Manifest Commercio : It is a departmental (commerce) event with various exciting competitions and functions.2. Varsity Week : It is a week of various functions and competitive events including sports, arts, music, cultural night, etc.

Fees for course are comparatively high when compared to those of Tezpur University. Same course is there as well but cheaper there than in Guwahati. It's nothing much to complain about but it is definitely higher considered to other institutions in Guwahati.

I don't know about any such scholarship programs in my College primarily because I haven't availed any. But there exists such programs and my fellow class mates have taken advantage of it. But I never really went for one so I don't possess enough information to review it.

Great emphasis is given on the extra curricular activities. Sports, music, drama, arts etc are just few. Many entrepreneurial competitions are also held to promote a sense of entrepreneurship among the youth. We have a Computer Lab and for the most part, it gets the job done.

Senior students tend to be really helpful and treat you like their own family. They will guide you when you ask for help. Generally speaking, haven't faced any ragging or bullying here as it's strictly prohibited anyway. So never had any issues with seniors and they really are sincere.

I approached the department after our 12th results were out and we collected the forms. I filled it up along with the requisites and then submitted the same on the due date. Out of all applicants, those who were eligible were called for a written exams which involved questions of aptitude, general knowledge, logic and reasoning and language skills. If you had scored good enough on that exam, you shall be selected and you would have to be there on the admission day where you pay the fees and get the admission procedure done. After that, you are officially a student.

The faculty is really good and willing to help. They know their subjects very well and can part their knowledge on their respective subjects very effectively and efficiently. They always guide us regarding any concepts and make sure each and every student is clear with the concepts.
