Abhishek Jena's Review On Silicon University, Bhubaneswar

After graduation I gave O-JEE beacuse I was interested in MCA. I got a rank 372 and according to Rank I got SIlicon Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar. I had heard that this is one of the best college in Odisha. That's why I opted for it.

MCA course was of 3 years where every year is having 2 semesters each. So total 6 semesters. Every semester had 6 papers. The structure of curriculum was not that great because the curriculum contains more subject of theory rather than practical. And the laboratory was not satisfactory either. The assistant in lab was not that knowledgeable.

Yes it does. There are 2 or 3 software companies in the college campus itself. So they take interview of final semester students and based on the interview result they hire some for internship. In my batch, we were paid 1000 excluding lunch during internship.

The placement is not that good or not that bad either. Most of the companies who visit our college for placement are regular ones. Infosys, Capgemini, Wipro and sometimes Mindtree. These were the four companies who regualrly visit our campus every year. around 50% students of MCA get placed every year.

Our college used to organised tech fest, cultural events every year where in tech fest students from all technical colleges participate and 3 winners were given some prizes. And the cultural program is completely internal. Students from our college only participate in different programs like singing, dancing and some kind of act.

I feel the fee structure is a bit on the higher side. In my batch they had 2,74,000 as fee only for 3 years MCA program without hostel fee. So i think it was on the higher side. And if you don't have good rank in entrance exam, then you have to opt for management quota and for that you have to pay some lakhs again.

They provide some kind of scholarship if you belong to financial backward family or you are from social backward family. They also provide some scholarship for topper of each batch in each year.

The campus life was very good. It was an wonderful experience throughout. Gender ratio was around 55 : 45 ( boys : girls) which is quite good. Every year they conduct sports competition where lots of game played like cricket, basket ball, volley ball, foot ball, running etc.

In Silicon, there are 2 hostels boys and girls. Hostels were good and safe without raging or anything. Hostel rooms were of 3 sharing, 4 sharing or 5 sharing basis. They provide a bed, a table and a cupboard for each student in room. The hostel surroudings are clean too. Hostel food was good on somedays and not that good on the other. But food was ok with respect to its cost.

Yes the senior students and alumni are very helpful towards their juniors. We have a Alumni group in facebook where alumni used to help juniors find a job or any other help too.

In every semester , we had 3 internal exams each having 10 marks. Generally each subject has 3 modules and after each module is finished, an internal exam gets scheduled. The exam questions and patterns were good enough. Some teacher wantonly give very tough questions on internal. so most of the students gets failed in that paper but that teacher used pass them who tried to answer at least.

Most of the faculties of Silcon Institute of Technology were good and knowledgeable. But some faculties were there who did not have much knowledge about the paper they were teaching. They used to carry text book and copy the examples from text book to black board. But the good faculties used to give various different examples to make us understand better.
