My college experience

IIITDM KANCHEEPURAM is an institute located at 45 minutes distance from Chennai, Curriculum designed is helpful for creative, innovative, and design-based learning. Resources provided such as AC library, high-speed internet, and Sports complex facilitate all-round development. Various activities are conducted by cultural affairs which is a student body. Academic wise faculties are well qualified and due to less class size, IIITDM is much better for individuals rather than to b a part of a rat race.

Electronics and Communication, 4 year BTech degree, this course is available. Earlier when I joined there were dual degree courses as well. I chose VLSI Design as it's one of the most useful topics in communication systems in these times. Lots of technological aspects revolve around VLSI Design.

The 3-month summer internship is available for a project-based learning experience on the campus itself, in BiRD Lab, TLC- Teaching Learning centre, MaDeIT. IIITDM Kancheepuram requires students to do a 5-month compulsory internship in their 4 years i.e odd semester (VII) May-October.

Placements scenario in IIITDM Kancheepuram is not so appealing to brag about, as of statistics 95+ Companies visited, 136+ total offers and the highest package is 51 LPA. Two senior students who graduated in 2020 got 42 LPA offer from Adobe. Before them, two students got an offer from Amazon 28 LPA.

Fees are quite costly and general category middle class students have a tough time. Fortunately there not many hikes in fees since I joined. As for scholarship, it's provided to the top 10 % of students, and the CGPA Criteria is above 8.0. Apart from that many state governments provide scholarships to SC/ST Students.

Samgatha is the annual fest that occurs in March every year. Then there's Techfest Vashisht and Meraki. Various clubs run by students are EDC - Electronics design club, CS Club, AUV Club- AUTOMATED UNDERWATER VEHICLE, Quriosity- Quiz club, IITDM EPiC- Entrepreneurship and Investment Club, LiGHT CHENNAI - NGO associated with GYWS, IIITDM Vidhai- IIITDM initiative to teach poor government school kids, Tamil Saalaram, Footlights - Dance Club, Music Club, IIITDM Book Club.

The campus has 3 hostels in total i.e., Ashwatha, Ashoka, Jasmine first two are boys hostels and the third one is a girls hostel. Each room has a bed, table, fan, tube lights. There are shared washing machines. Laundry on campus premises. Meals in Akshay mess are of good quality and the menu is also suitable for students.
