Cotton University - It's Significance and Prestige

Cotton University (earlier Cotton College) has always kept its glory and prestige intact since time immemorial. Since its establishment in 1901, it has given birth to numerous great personalities and has always been the centre of attraction for curious scholars who wish to achieve their dreams. For any scholar, with diverse hobbies and interests, who wish to refine himself/herself and become the best version, Cotton University has always been an endeavouring platform. From 120 years and so on, its shine and brilliance remain unfaded. Admissions are done on the basis of a merit list prepared in accordance with marks secured in the best of 3 subjects in HS Finals. Stay updated with the university website for forms. Admissions for the year 2020 were free of cost as per Govt. instructions due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Once the merit lists are prepared, students are asked to apply for admission in accordance with the merit list. And there you have the most prestigious tag - You are now a Cottonian!

To be specific, the Department of Chemistry has a great panel of teachers and faculty members who are really dedicated. You can expect a homely environment with them around you. As said, in any institute, communication between teachers and students is of utmost essential. Here, you will always feel compatible with the faculty members, rest is your duty to connect and cooperate. Teachers from every department are highly qualified and have published reports and papers in many renowned institutes of the world, collaborating with well-known researchers across the globe. The teaching method is the primitive chalk and board method. Though, during the pandemic days, proper online methods for classes had been employed. Rest, the limitations of online classes is nothing a new fact for us, is it? The course is in accordance with the semester system as per the CBCS syllabus of UGC. Every sem is of about 5-6 months with a mid-term of 30 marks and a final exam of 70 marks including practicals of 30/60 marks.

I don't have much knowledge regarding the internship opportunities off-campus offered by the institute, yet we have seen seniors getting internship packages across many renowned places in Assam as well as India. Credit goes to their hard work, far-sightedness, and determination.

Campus placements tbh are not so significant. But, students can opt for internships in various places across India. It's a forever true fact that ultimately the future of a student depends upon his dedication towards his studies, his life, and to the extent up to which he or she can utilize his time. Cotton would definitely ensure a blissful college life, but the fact that a student's personal decisions can affect his course is unfathomable. Cotton University shall give a lot of exposure to students trying to approach different fields, besides studies, like music, active politics, social work, etc. But ultimately it's the student who has to strike the right chord according to his desires.

As mentioned earlier, no admission fees for the year 2020 were taken as per Govt instructions due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Also, being a reputed Governmental Institute, the fee structure is quite affordable compared to private institutions. ?6600 admission + ?1450 + ?1450 (fees for two final sem form fillup). The reputed hostels of the institute are really affordable. Besides providing quality livelihood, they are affordable for students facing difficulties staying in a rent house or PG in Guwahati. The institute has a library besides other departmental libraries where students can borrow books without actually purchasing them. UGC scholarships like Ishan-Udoy, INSPIRE, etc offer financial assistance to students by providing about Rs 60,000 per year until the course gets completed. No placement opportunity tbh, but a Cottonian applying for jobs with the required knowledge and caliber can definitely cast a good impression in an interview.

As said, the life of a Cottonian is a greatly prestigious one. You'll love your life, feel blessed to be the juniors of so many reputed personalities of Assam. The Annual Fest or Varsity Week in Cotton is commendable. 27th May, being the establishment day of Cotton (luckily my birthdate as well). If you stay in any of the prestigious hostels of Cotton, you'll experience a truly different and amazing life there. "Abege", the annual music fest, with its heartful history and significance will make your heart filled with bliss. Libraries are filled with books in almost every genre. You can easily lend them as per the rules. You'll experience a quality environment there for studying. Many departments like Mathematics, Geology, etc are situated in the college campus including the prestigious MCB Building, while some departments like Chemistry, Physics, etc. have separate buildings situated on different campuses. Hostellers and students run different NGOs and websites for the welfare of people.
