MBA at Berhampur University, Odisha

Berhampur University is the oldest university in Odisha. Top ojee rank holders preferred to join BU. The best faculty members and very successful alumni of the university attract the best students. Being a govt university and MBA not being a self-financing course, admission to the university is very easy. One has to clear the entrance test with a good score. No donation, no referral required. BU has its own dedicated website. But while choosing the university it was the trust of my parents, elder siblings, teachers, and seniors that gave me confidence.

I had an interest in doing a professional course, particularly MBA. Always wanted to study without imposing any financial burden on my parents. So chose a govt university in my state and hometown, which has the best faculty strength. Total 6 faculties were there for 30 students in a batch and a total of two batches. The faculties are all highly educated, with min a master's degree and Ph.D. The teaching method was mainly participative and discussion-oriented. Rich subject knowledge helped the students to clear the concept and understand the true value of management studies. The faculties used to improve the teaching method and standards by regularly attending workshops and seminars, also by visiting leading private B-schools as guest faculty. Exams were always conducted on time and it was not at all difficult to pass the exam with the best guidance, library, self-motivation, and clear concept

Students were free to join any company for the midterm project. The university always helped the students by guiding and providing necessary approvals for carrying out the internship. I had chosen two subjects. One compensation policy of an organization (oriplast) and financial performance of a bank (BoI). However, due to time constraint could not complete the later

Campus placement was not up to mark. However 100% employability was recorded in our batch. Package our batchmates earning are between 3-20lakhs per annum. I always wanted to join a bank and got an opportunity to join a bank post completion of my course

The university charges nominal fees for a professional course. Though it is very high in comparison to general master degrees, the course fee is justifiable for MBA. It doesn't demand any donation. Students can apply and get scholarships under various schemes as per their eligibility. A bank loan is easily available for students with very poor financial backgrounds. However, I had never applied for any scholarship/ financial assistance. I missed the campus recruitment programme as I was in training

BU has a very big library with books and journals on every subject. Classrooms were equipped with projectors. No other modern classroom equipment was available during 2008-10. IT lab was there with systems and internet connection. Various cultural programmes were being organized. Social groups in Facebook, wapp exists

Hostel rooms were with bare minimum facilities, like bed, study table, chair, light, and fan. Common toilet and bathrooms with 24*7 water supply. The meal quality was good, not the best. The registration process was very simple, just write a letter and get a room. It varied much affordable with less than rs1000 per month for room n food ( lunch and dinner only, no breakfast)
