Remarks

I was admitted via NRI quota so there was no counseling for me. Instead, I was offered an IT branch directly based on my grades and had an option to opt-in for a branch upgrade after the first year fulfilling certain requirements.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

The term exams were timely relative to the pace and unexpected delay due to the pandemic. The midterms were converted into more dynamic per module quizzes. It was a fair examination and passing was moderately difficult.

Internships Opportunities

4

There are several internship opportunities with varied roles and stipends. I don't know the details yet as I've not been on campus and I'm still in my first year but it is of the sort of getting offered a junior software developer intern with stipends of up to 30k to 50k.

Placement Experience

4

From 3rd year onwards the students are eligible for campus placements. There are several big companies and smaller companies that approach including Microsoft and Atlassian, Samsung, Wipro etc. The highest packages for the IT branch as in 2021 were 52, 50, and 48 lacs. The majority of students get well placed.

Fees and Financial Aid

No scholarship but there are options like GP Birla scholarship. There are also options for financial aid. I'm still in my first year so I don't have a job yet. The costs to study are fairly affordable with adequate provisions for fee reimbursements for special and specific cases.

Campus Life

4

There are several fests but the most prominent of them is BITOTSAV. I've not been on campus so can't comment on the resources or infrastructure of the college. Sports and extracurricular activities are very prominent with GYM access to a sports complex. There are several groups and clubs to be a part of at BIT.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

I can't comment upon the factual correctness of this but from what I've heard from seniors that there are 2 person rooms for boys and 3 person rooms for girls in 1st year which becomes 1 person and 2 people from 2nd year onwards. The hostels are good enough and the meal is like the typical hostel meal.

Other Applied Colleges

Kalinga Institute of Information Technology | B.Tech CSE

BIT Mesra stood at a better rank and classified as a tier 1 college. Also the placements were better

From 7th sem onwards students are able to face placements. Comapnies such as ZS, Deloite AB in bev microsoft visa comes here and normally takes 1-3 students. The highest package may vary from 40-50 lakhs and average is 4-5 lakhs. Internships opportunities are quite low here. In chemical enginnering only till now out of 120 students 20-30 got placed including out of campus palcements. I am hoping to do mba after pursuing the degree as there is less comapny visit for core branches.
