Remarks
I belong to general category. Along with National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST), I’d applied for Parala Maharja Engineering College, Berhampur (PMEC), IGIT Sarang, VSSUT Burla and CET Bhubaneswar through OJEE Counselling. I got a seat in the above colleges but not according to my choice of branch because of lower JEE score and general category. I’d also appeared for other exams like BITSAT, KIITEE and SOA SAT. I got selected in KIIT and SOA but didn’t join because of high fees. So after talking with my elders and somebody seniors, I joined NIST and also got a seat in CSE. Cutoff for CSE goes for around AIR 450000 in JEE for general category.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose CSE because I’m quite interested in programming stuff as I’d studied Computer Science in my intermediate and I liked that subject a lot. The faculties are student-friendly and have great qualifications. The student-faculty ratio is around 50:1. There are 2 exams conducted per semester, i.e., mid sem and end sem. If someone has attended all the lectures, it’s not that difficult to pass.
Internships Opportunities
A student needs to have at least 3-4 internships for a good resume. For that, our college provides internships to the students. Along with that, students get the opportunity for doing internships in many different companies too. I’m in 1st year now. We’ll get internship opportunities from 2nd year onwards
Placement Experience
The placements are pretty good too. Like most of the colleges, a large no. of students get placed in IT companies with an average package of 2-3 lacs per annum. Companies like Infosys, Byju’s, Tech Mahindra, TCS have visited and according to resources more than 120 students got placed and at that time, placement was still going on. The highest package went upto 12 lacs per annum. Well, my plan after getting the degree is to qualify for CAT and pursue MBA from an IIM.
Fees and Financial Aid
Currently, the fee is 1,35,000 INR per year. And there are scholarships available for different criteria. 2nd and 3rd-year students get the opportunity of being research assistants for professors and get a stipend too.
Campus Life
All the classrooms have the facility of digital boards. There is a library in every building. But the central library is the largest. There facilities of e-books, many journals, and ample amount amounts of books for students. There are lots of opportunities for students interested in sports too. There is a large indoor stadium, a swimming pool, volleyball court, basketball court, gym and many more. There are many clubs for different activities like literature, art, and dramatics, music, dance, robotics, programming which conducts various activities and competitions for the students.
