Looking into reality of ' Not So known' college- IIT (ISM)

To get admission to IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, I had to clear JEE Advance with a decent rank. I had applied in IIT KGP, Roorkee, Kanpur, Guwahati, But eventually, I got the best stream amongst them in ISM, Hence I rejected the other core IIT's. I am a General category candidate and availed no quota during the admission process, it was purely on merit. Since the cutoff marks, opening and closing rank vary each year, nothing could be specifically said, However, A score of 120+ in JEE Advanced ensures a seat for sure!The age of the candidate varies between 17 to 19 (as per jee advanced guidelines) Since I have taken admission in Y-2020, a pandemic was going on, Hence the admission process was purely online, We were given a JOSAA website, to fill our preferences (of the institute along with course), and then 6 Rounds were conducted.

My department is Chemical Engineering, This field is one of the most open-ended field one can aspire to. One can opt for core, energy sector, management, finance, consulting, or coding. This course opens a wide amount of opportunities, one can even aspire to and gives a lot of time to build qualities/skills. As per data available on iitism. ac. in, there are 8101 students and 316 faculty members so the faculty: student ratio is 1:25 (avg) The majority of faculties are PHD (about 96%) and the rest are M.Tech (as per iitism website). In online mode, there are different types of teaching methodology, some prepare interactive PPT's to explain their course, while some use whiteboard. Term exams were of moderate difficulty, and could be only passed if one has is thorough with the course.

Numerous companies like Google, Microsoft, TATA steel, TCS, Capegemini,JP morgan,Detushe bank,BNY melon, and many more top companies come to hire students for internships with stipend.

Students can sit for placements from the 7th semester. Nearly all the top companies come to college like Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, JP Morgan, capegemini, Barclays, KPMG, Deutsche Bank, Walmart, PwC, Mckinsey& company and many more top companies come every year to hire students. As per data, the Highest package was Rs54.57 lakhs pa to 7 students by GOOGLE. The average package of college is Rs 11lakhs pa as per data available on iitism.ac.in. Various profiles are offered from coding, data analyst, tech analyst, management consultant, consulting, finance, IT sector, health sector are present every year. I'm planning to get into Management consulting directly from college.

Being a Government college, There is no fee hike policy as such. For the B.tech program, a general/OBC category student has to pay a tuition fee of approx 8.75 lakhs for 4 years. With other charges like a library, sports, hostel, medical, The amount stands around 10.3 lakhs (inclusive of all types of charges). More than 30 scholarship programs are running in college. The total scholarship amount is more than Rs 1.5 cr from ISM alumni. Another fee waiver, merit cum means are also available for all students whose annual parental income is less than Rs 6 lakhs.

There are different fest for different themes. SRIJAN- socio-cultural fest , Concetto - annual technical fest,Basant- Alumni reunion festival, parikrama - annual sports fest, excelsior- literary fest. The new library hall is the second largest & modern library in Asia. It comprises more than 1,00,000 books, journals, and e-books and nearly all the books of all the subjects are available. Lecture Halls are fully air-conditioned, fitted with projectors. One can find all types of sports facilities in students gymkhana, from GYMs, football, cricket ground, Olympic-sized swimming pools,indoor and outdoor badminton courts, tennis, boxing ring , karate, and even Squash courts with properly maintained and up-to-date equipment. There is nearly all type of clubs in IIT (ISM) related to videography(LCI) , robotics (RoboISM) , dance ( WTC(street), LITM(classical)) , music(Manthan) , Literary and debating (LITC) , public speaking ( toastmasters) , coding (codeISM) , Ecell and many more clubs.

A cupboard, fan, table, chair and 2 beds in a room are provided in the hostel. Food quality varies from hostel to hostel, On average, A great variety is served, However, the taste is average. Both veg and nonveg are provided in the hostel. While you register for college after councelling ends, Rooms, and hostels are automatically provided by management. It costs Rs 6.5k per semester. All the hostels are within the campus and safe.
