IIT Dhanbad, The Full Package

I applied for other private colleges like BITS, VIT and Manipal but I didn't go to them as IIT Dhanbad was by far the best choice. It has been a very well reputed institute and after becoming an IIT the choice was very clear. I have not availed of any quota for my admission. The admission was taken through the JEE(Advanced) examination based on the rank and the minimum rank for a general category male was around 10,000. The minimum age was 18. The admission was done online mode through the JoSAA counselling website. We filled out our preference list and got allocated seats according to that.

The exams were a bit postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic but security measures taken were up to par and everyone was made to social distance properly. The exam itself was quite challenging. It required 2 years of work to grasp all the concepts and do enough practice to get a good rank.

The internship opportunities are vast here. Students start going for interns from their 2nd year itself. Internships are offered by all companies who come for placements and students who get interns do also get PPOs which are pre-placement offers. Students who have a good resume are surely going to get a good intern.

The students become eligible for campus placements from the 3rd year or 5th semester. Many companies come here for placements such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Phone pe, etc. Lots of offers are made and many students are placed every year with good packages. I plan to pursue higher education so I will probably go abroad to get an M. Tech.

No scholarship was availed by me but the fees of the course is very affordable and the Economically Weaker Section are given a big reduction in the fees along with financial assistance too. As I am a first year I still haven't applied for jobs or internships but looking at previous years records I am confident in saying that I will secure a good job with a great package.

The campus life here is amazing. We have annual cultural and tech fests called Srijan and Concetto. Our library is the largest technical library in Asia and has a vast amount of journals and course-related books available. We have courts and facilities for nearly every sport. Basketball, Tennis, Boxing, Weightlifting, Cricket and the list goes on. There are also many student-run clubs here that do wonderfully in promoting extracurricular among students by giving them an outlet to pursue their interests.

The dorm rooms are fairly simple. They are 2 seater rooms and come with 2 beds a table chair, and a cupboard. The mess is decent but there can be improvements made in this area but by no means is the food inedible. Living in hostels is compulsory for all students of the college so registration for hostels happens along with registration to the college itself. They are affordable.
