Overview and Personal experience at JIMS, kalkaji

The admissions in Guru Gobind Singh Indraprasth University are mostly entrance based. The candidates are given a chance to take IPU-CET which is the entrance test for programmes like BBA, BCOM etc. IP university also accepts the exams conducted by various authorities all over the Country for programmes like Btech etc. Various levels of counselling are conducted by the university to take admissions in the different colleges. Students with higher rank are promoted to get admissions in top colleges. But that doesn't do any partiality with the students who somehow weren't able to score higher ranks as there is an option of sliding around too where they can aim for better colleges. Admission criteria differ from course to course. For BBA, it is required for a student to complete 10+2 from a recognized board. Securing at least 50% aggregate is important too. After selecting the college you are required to freeze your seat and then go to that specific college with all your documents for further process.

I chose BBA as my programme for higher studies keeping in mind my interest in the management field. It increases your practical knowledge in the field and personality development is a plus point too. It makes it easy to pursue MBA as you already would know things. Faculty at JIMS,kalkaji is a renowned group of people from which most people are PhD holders from various recognised universities. Faculties teach students taking help of presentations and are exhaustive. It makes it easy for the students too because they can access these presentations from anywhere and anytime. Teachers make the sessions interactive by regularly giving examples of assignments. Faculties at my college are always available for the students whenever they require any help. The faculty student ratio is 1:20 approx. There are two types of exams Internals and Externals where Internals include the performance within the college and externals are taken in assigned centres. You compete at the University level.

JIMS,kalkaji has its own placement society where students, as well as teachers, work together to provide internship and job opportunities to the students of the college. Internship drives are run by the placement society throughout the year. These internships are available to seniors as well as students belonging to freshmen year. Usually, Startups are more accessible. In the recent internship drive internships from Skillshare, collegedunia, atrasaki, campus to corporate were provided to the students. Some internships are also referred to by the university itself. Internships from the companies like WhiteHat junior are always being forwarded through emails. The average stipend is somewhere around 5 thousand to 20 thousands. The activities that students are required to perform during their internship period is mostly based on practical knowledge. Students are given some relaxation on attendance if they provide enough proofs of doing an internship to the administration department of the college

3rd year students are eligible for campus placements. Students from both the courses i.e. BBA and BCom are provided with enough opportunities for placements. Companies like Amazon, Asain paints, Godrej, Decathlon, Kent etc come to our college with placement opportunities for students. The placement drive starts around September. The salaries range from around 3 lakhs to 5 lakhs per annum. Positions like the assistant manager and general manager are offered to the students. This is just for the UG programme students. Students pursuing PGDM are also provided with similar kind of opportunities. The average salary for PGDM students is somewhere between 7 to 10 lakhs per annum. The highest salary packed grabbed by a student of PGDM was 17.5 lakhs in the college. The rate of placements is 90% which is a positive sign.

The fees of studying BBA at JIMS, kalkaji is around 3.5 lakhs to 4 lakhs for the whole course. For one year it costs somewhere around 1 lakh. For the further years the fees don't change much it remains around 1 lakh only. Throughout the year our college actively keeps on providing information related to government financial aids through mails to the students. Teachers also encourage students to apply for the Scholarships if they pass the criteria. They also help in documentation and provides full support. I also applied for a scholarship named Merit cum means linked financial assistance scheme. The placement cell of the college which includes faculties as well as students are highly involved in the campus recruitment process. Companies like Amazon, Deloitte, Godrej, Kent, Decathlon, Asian paints etc are some examples of companies which comes to our college with job offers but only for 3rd year students with average salary is around 2 to 3 lakhs per annum with a success rate around 90%.

All the Branches of JIMS organises an annual cultural fest known as ZEST which is inter college fest. It provides opportunities for the students to showcase their talent in Acting, Dancing, Singing, Fashion show. It builds confidence as well as increases interactiveness in students as they meet different other students. Another Fest is organised by Guru govind Singh Indraprastha university named ANUGOONJ. It allows the students of the university to showcase their talent on a bigger platform. Our college has got facilities like two computer labs for UG students and one big computer lab for PGDM students, One canteen with enough space to sit, one auditorium, a gym and all the rooms are air-conditioned. Talking about the library, it provides books from various authors on various topics. There is no playground but the backyard is enough for practices. There are various societies like Placement, Dramatics, Dancing etc. Sports competitions are also held throughout the year.
