A Short Review on Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology Shibpur, Howrah

I have secured 36,728 merit rank in the OBC-NCL quota and I was selected to participate in the counselling process of NIT Durgapur in the Department of Metallurgy Engineering and also I have secured 280 merit rank in Wbjee OBC-NCL quota and opted for counselling in Jadavpur University in the Department of Electrical Engineering. But IIESTS Howrah was my dream college so when I have opted in the 6th round of counselling from JOSAA I didn't miss this opportunity and I was processing the counselling procedure in IIESTS Howrah. For admitting to the Mining Engineering department at this Institute one student need to be ranked between 33000 to 45000 OBC-NCL rank and age also 18 above (minimum to complete H.S Board Exam). It was not a very smooth and fluent process of admission. The administrations are quite strict so the admission procedure is quite strict but above all, they helped me a lot to be admitted and I am thankful to them.

Actually, this was not my favourite course department at that time of admission. I was finding to be admitted to the Department of Electrical Engineering for the fulfilment of Bachelor of Technology. But the faculty members are too friendly and they are too co-operative. Student to faculty ratio in our batch is - 31:17 and they are too much student friendly. All facilities are well qualified among them 4 or 5 are having field working experience too and others are also having great knowledge about practical fieldwork and they teach us too well that now my thoughts are totally different from that time of admission and now I love this department. There are 2 main examination midterm exam and end semester examination and 10 to 20 assignment and 5 to 10 class tests and lab experiment tests, viva and grand vivas. Exams are quite difficult to be passed but if someone regularly attends the classes and be attentive and listen to all lectures carefully they can easily achieve good marks.

There are some companies like to provide internship program offers in our department like Vedanta Carien oil and Tata Steel and JMS consultant and so on. They offer online and offline available internship program. But the students to get availed by internship program is quite less and disappointed. More or less 20 to 30 percent of students are availed for internship. The selection method of the departmental internship program is also quite strict to be selected. They offer a good amount for intern students too. Also, the students can go for online registration of some non departmental internship too and also can go for some online platform courses like Coursera, Udemy. For the departmental internship program, students should research properly with field experience and also from internet data available to create a good project on it to be selected for PPO and internship price amounts.

From the 7th semester (4th year) all students can be eligible for campus placements. There are several govt. Companies along with some private companies provide their placement offers. Our DTPC department is always trying to approach all renowned companies for their placement offers to their students. There are so many companies like Capgemini India Pvt Ltd, JMS consultant, Gainwell cat, Vedanta Pvt Ltd and also Coal India (all branches like ECL, NCL, BCCL and so on) that are to be approached for placement offers. The highest packages are 14LPA to 16 LPA and average packages are 8 to 10 LPA available for students depending on the placement companies. In our department in every year, the core departmental placement offers percentage is 70 to 80 percentage and others are no core departmental placement. But in every year most of all students are placed in a company. One student can also refuse to be placed and can continue to the dual degree of engineering for 5 years course or they can go with MTech.

For admitting to the Department a general category student must pay 67500 rupees per each semester and besides this, if he appeared in a selection of hostel and to opt for hostels he must have to pay 36000 in each semester. But the fees are waived for some quota like OBC, SC/ST category. There are no hidden charges and no hidden fees except the field visit excursion fees and some annual departmental fests, tech fests and some social fests. From college, no scholarship is availed for a student up to the 2nd year. But from 3rd year one student can be availed sone scholarships from the college web portal or contact the registration office. From the college web portal, a study loan named Vidya Lakshmi is to be provided with minimum interest and some other loans are also available.

There are so many annual departmental fests, tech fests, social fests. Like in our College Rebeca (in the month of April May) is the oldest annual fest in India. Also In our department INITIUM (in the month of February) is the annual departmental tech fest. Sone other fests like RDX for songs and cultural fest and so on. All kinds of required study material and course related books are available on our library shelf. Also, so many online and offline available journals are available on library shelves and library web portal. There are so many extracurricular activities are available there like sings, dance games offline and online in both fields, social works, Gym equipment, singing instrumentation and so on. There are so many clubs related to social works like ICHA for children study and dome for songs like Uphony and some study related like EDC cell and so on clubs are there to be joined by interested percipants.

There are 4 beds, 4 study tables, 4 almirahs and 2 to 3 fabs (depending on the room size) in a room up to 3rd year hostels. In 1st year there 3 boys hostel and one girl's hostel. In the 2nd year, there are 3 boys hostel and 2 girls hostel (these 2 are up to PhD girls student) and in the 3rd year, 2 boys hostel and the 4th year the students are opted to accommodate in halls like 4 halls are there mainly. In halls there are 2 or 1 seated room and all halls are well maintained and well polished. In hostels the provided meals are good but in halls, the provided meals are better in comparison to hostels. There in the hostel and halls both cases all regional students get the same priorities to select the menus. And all regional menus are circulated in a week. There are 2 categories in every single time veg and non veg and they're well separated so that vegetarian is not to be forced to get non veg. There are some well maintained rental rooms and PG rooms are also available but without food facilities.
