Remarks
I opted for IIEST, Shibpur as I am from West Bengal and the college was also in West Bengal. Previously it was under the state colleges but now it's under the central and also along with nits. It ranked 27 under NIRF, under engineering colleges. For getting in, we need to give jee mains. The admission procedure was simple and in 2-3 hrs admission was done along with new id cards.
Course Curriculum Overview
The first reason was my rank and the second reason was that I preferred mining over other branches like civil, mechanical In our department, we were 31 students and 12 teachers are there. Every professor has done their PhD in mining so the knowledge is more and also they have worked in mines so they also have the practice of the live situation. So according to me teacher in our department have good knowledge about the subjects and they have also worked in mines so practically they know what to do and when to do. Exam level is not easy and not so tough, and if we focus on class and study properly we can get good numbers.
Internships Opportunities
Tata Steel has come for an internship and has selected 2 students from the mining. likewise, other departments have also got internship like Goldman Sachs, Vedanta carin and oil, etc. Tata steel has given the internship a 10k per month stipend. In mining, we have our vocational training during the summer break between 2nd year and 3rd year and 2nd vocational training between 3rd and 4th year summer break. 1st vocational training we were sent to coal mines and we have stayed and learned for 1 month and 2nd vocational training we were sent to metal mines for 1 month.
Placement Experience
From the 7th semester, we are eligible for placements , Vedanta, Tata Steel, Capgemini, TCS, Infosys. Previous year almost 85-90 percent of the student from mining got placements. The highest package in 2020 was 39 lakhs per annum. I would try to get placement and besides, I will also prepare myself for CAT and GATE exams.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees are like 70k/semester. They also provide wavier like 1/3 rd or 2/3 rd or full wavier depending on their parent's income. Library facilities are awesome. I just completed my 3rd year, and the placement scenario is good.
Campus Life
Annual Fest- Rebecca during the spring season and tech fest is there based on the department like we have INITIUM tech fest for mining engineering. The books availability is awesome I never ever experienced a shortage of books or journal. Mining Department classes are the best I guess because they have ac and white board and a green board i.e, everything is there. Sports and extra curricular are taken into consideration so we have a class for these, also we have a gym inside the campus there are lots of groups.
Hostel Facilities
In the hostel, we were given a bed, almirah and a desk, rooms have wifi. We get 3 meals per day i.e., breakfast (8 a.m), lunch( 1:00 p.m) and dinner (around 9 p.m). During admission, we completed our registration process for the hostel.
