Remarks
The admission procedure was quite simple. The required documents were needed to be submitted by a specified date and then the fees were to be submitted after confirming the seat. Seat allocation was done through the JoSAA website which was the official website for applying to the government-funded institutions. There were 6 rounds for seat allocation if not satisfied with the current seat allotted one could go to the next round. After a seat was allotted, it had to be confirmed by the specific instructions of the institute. I also applied for some private colleges but IIT was a dream come true so I opted for IIT ISM Dhanbad. The criteria were the same as all IITs i.e. based on JEE Advanced rank.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course I am pursuing is Bachelor of Technology in chemical engineering. The reason I chose this course is that I was always very interested in chemistry and it also happened to be my favourite. The faculty-student ratio in the first year is quite good and even more so from the second year. The professors take up all the doubts of students. All the faculty are extremely qualified in their own field and have their own teaching methods which are very intriguing. Coming to exams, in the online course, there were 4 quizzes and an end semester exam at the end. In the offline course, mind sem are held instead of quizzes. The end-semester exams are, to be honest, quite challenging and requires efforts on our part.
Internships Opportunities
Many companies provide internship offers with a decent stipend. Though the stipend differs for each company. Internships are usually offered in the 5th and 6th semester for 4 years B.tech/B.E. courses. The projects differ for each course and also depend on the individual applying for the internships.
Placement Experience
Generally, there are internships in the 5th or 6th semester and many companies provide on-campus placements in the 7th and 8th semester for 4-year B.tech students. The highest offer was around 90 lakhs offered to a computer science student. the percentage is a fair 90%. Over the years the placements in the college have seen gradual growth and thus the opportunities are rising.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees are quite a lot after the fees hike in IITs, but it is still less compared to many private colleges. Compared to older times the cost to study has increased but the job opportunities have also developed. So the cost to study is more or less like an investment for a better future. There are different scholarships for the economically weak and also for reserved quotas. Placements and internships on the campus are really good and the statistics for placements are continuously developing. The placement is almost 90% on campus.
Campus Life
There are many fests conducted in our college. Annual fest, Srijan is conducted around march and another fest called Basant is held mostly in February. A tech fest called Hackathon is also conducted around February and March. There are a number of extracurricular activities and respective clubs for them. A student can join any club one likes. each club has its own website. These clubs include different sports and arts like music, dance, debate, dramatics, etc. The library in the college is known to be one of the largest in India. It has books on various topics and genres.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel rooms are fairly clean in the girl's hostel. Basic things like bed, cupboard and study table are provided with the room. The mess is not far from the hostel. There is a separate mess for veg and nonveg. The hostel fees are reasonable. The accommodations in the hostel are pretty great. One room is for two people. A badminton court for recreational purposes is present in the hostel.
