IIT Dhanbad is really worth it!

I didn't choose any other college except the IITs for admission. Hence I gave JEE Advanced and got selected in an IIT. The admission process is slightly different as it was done entirely done by JoSAA(Joint Seat Allocation Authority). The procedure for JoSAA counseling starts just a few days after the declaration of results of JEE Advanced. The counseling process consists of sometimes 7, sometimes 6 rounds. Student gets the seat in an IIT based on his/her rank and the priority of filling the choices. After each round of counseling, there is an option to Freeze/ Float/ Slide which means to Lock the seat/ look for a better priority seat/ look for a better seat in the same allotted college respectively. After all the rounds of counseling, the final confirmed seat gets notified to the student. Following this, after the counseling process, the Registrar for Undergraduate from the allotted IIT will send you an email in which all the following admission processes will be mentioned.

The course I chose is one of the most popular ones. There is a great industrial demand for the course I am pursuing. My branch has almost 100 students and 7 faculty members teaching us. So the faculty-student ratio is about 1:15 approximately. All the faculty members are well qualified. All of them are Ph.D. in their departments. The faculty have ongoing research projects and many of them are included in International Societies. The exams are not really tough if the student studies regularly and revises the notes of the classes.

There are many companies coming for internship opportunities for third and fourth-year students. Some of the internship companies offer Pre Placement offers in which students don't have to apply for placement add the same company gives them the job also! To successfully get selected for an internship, students must have good projects as well as a good resume. The student should start working to build a good resume right from the first year itself. There are a lot of internship opportunities from the campus itself or from off-campus.

Students become eligible for placements during the engine of their third year. The placements statistics are really mind-blowing. This year the placements broke all past records and the highest-paid packages were 90 lakhs and 81 lakhs for the Computer Science department. The placement offered by my College is among the best among other IITs. Almost all students in all branches who apply for placement get places. For this year 699 students have already been placed. 154 have got placed in off-campus opportunities. 142 students have opted for higher studies in India or abroad. Since the total strength is 1200 students. So about 83% of students get placed. My plan after the course is to apply for placement in a Multi-National Company.

The fee structure is quite good which considers the student needs appropriately. There are many scholarships available for financially weak students like Merit cum Means and Tuition fee waivers. The ST/SC students don't need to pay any tuition fees. And the general and OBC have fee waiver opportunities depending on family income. The tuition fee for one semester is about 110000. So, including other charges, it becomes about 125000 rupees.

Life at the campus is really amazing and enjoyable. There are about 15 student clubs currently running which include Singing, dancing, painting, robotics, photography, videography, literature, Hindi sahitya, comedy club, etc. There are huge sports opportunities including all major sports. Our college has its own Swimming pool, basketball court, two big playgrounds among many others. All the co-curricular activities of students are managed by the student activity center (SAC). There are two NGOs also which teach the students of slums as well as organize blood donation camps among other charitable works.

Right now two students share a room in the hostels. The hostels are iconic and are named after precious gemstones like Amber, Diamond, Jasper, Topaz, Sapphire, Ruby, Rosaline among others. There is one new state-of-the-art hostel being constructed which would complete by 2021. This new hostel will be having a capacity of about 2000 students. The menu for food is quite good too. The students are offered a variety of food vegetarian or non-vegetarian. Also, there are periodic special dinners in which special meals are prepared which are very delicious. The campus also has many canteens which are also quite good.
