Lata Chavan's Review On SDM College Of Engineering And Technology - [SDMCET], Dharwad

I took CET(Karnataka) examination to enter my Engineering. I was really interested in computers and was very keen to learn about softwares and related stuff so I opted for Information Science Engineering. SDMCET was well-known and one of the best colleges in my region so I chose this college. Though I scored less marks I got only the last remaining seat in this branch and college. Was very lucky and very proud to be part of this college.

The courses were very much relevant to the branch and technology. Learning all basic software related languages was a good experience. Important courses included practical labs session to be more practical in our learning. There was a proper structure of learning starting from basics and then every semester moving in depth regarding the important aspects.

Yes, our college provide internship opportunities. The stipend wasn't revealed to all. Only selected students were discussed about the stipend and internal work for that particular company. Companies like Informatic, Goldman Sachs Technology,etc visited our campus and provided the internship as well as permanent job opportunities.

During my batch the following companies visited our campus and selection list with package are as follows. Sony selected 3 students from CS,IS and EC branches with Avg package of Rs 4.5 Lakhs. Three Students of M.Tech ISE selected for Internship and Full Time Employment at INTEL for Year 2014-15. KPIT recruits 58 students from CS,IS,EC and IS Branch with Average package of Rs 3.25 Lakhs per annum .

Two important events were celebrated in our college. One is Fiesta(An inter-college techno-cultural fest) conducted during odd semester and Insignia ( A national level techno-cultural fest) conducted during even semester. Among these two Insignia is considered to be the greater one with prizes worth nearly 7 Lakh and many events. Participating in these events was really a great pleasure as well known celebrities would be invited resulting in name and fame.

The fee structure is fixed. There are 3 quotas through which we get admission. CET( Merit entrance exam by karnataka), COMEDK and Management quota. for CET during my time it was Rs.38500 per year. Every year it keeps on increasing. For COMEDK it was Rs.115000 and for management also the same as COMEDK during my time.

I know very less about this topic. As per my knowledge my college was providing the opportunity to get the scholarships to backward class students as a helping hand in their fees.

About the gender ratio I would tell is it was dependent on the branch. For example if you consider mechanical branch obviously boys are more there. So like this the ratio is varying. In my branch we were 40 girls and 30 boys. Our college gave scope to many extracurricular activities and even sports. I with my team won cricket match(named googly) for consecutively 2 years(me as captain). We used to compete as a branch representative in many competitions.

I used to attend college from my home. So I never had that wonderful opportunity to enjoy hostel Life. But things I know from my friends who were hostelity are like: The fees was nearly Rs 38000 per year for girls and Rs 42000 per year for boys. Mess food varied a lot.. Sometimes good and most of the times bad( as said by my friends).

During college times seniors were like seniors. Some were helpful and friendly and some maintained their ego. But after the college they are quite helpful in providing the required information as much as possible. Our college has a very good alumni network. So its really helpful factor for the juniors.

Our exam structure was neither so hectic nor so chill. In a semester we had two continuous assessment tests(CAT for 50 marks), one Improvement or Make up test and one end semester exam( for 100 marks). It was same for labs as well as theory. So it was not so frequent. We had enough time to study and prepare for exams during these schedules.

According to the marks the seats were allotted and I got a seat in ISE. Submitted all the required documents such as SSLC marks card and PUC marks card in the Administrative wing and filled the application form and the required fees in the bank and then submitted all the receipts to the branch. As the admission was through merit, the process of admission was easier for me.

I feel really proud to say we had one of the best faculties. All were pretty much convincing in their subjects and had thorough knowledge regarding their respective courses. All time eager to answer our questions and never had boring sessions as I felt. Faculty used to respond any time, anywhere and helped a lot to learn our projects.
