Remarks

I spend my 4 years in Jalpaiguri, a college surrounded by tea gardens in 3 side, JGEC gave me the idea regarding the friendship, milieu around it during the chilled weather in winter season. I learned with the different courses which i will need in my future life by our beloved faculties. At Conclusion i will say I miss my College and my college days. it was really a awesome 4 year experience for me.

Entrance Preview

I scored 1932 rank in WBJEE (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination) in the year 2009, and i was in dilemma for opting Mechanical Engg or Electrical Engg in which college either in Jalpaiguri Govt. engg college or Kalyani govt. engg College. I asked one of my very old senior maths teacher which opt to put in, he suggested me Mechanical Engg in jalpaiguri Govt. Engg. College

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

In the first year, the course was common for all other departments, and after the progressive of the 2nd year of engg. the courses were getting concerned with the respective departments. During 3rd and 4th year we had totally engrossed ourselves in the mechanical subjects, which compromises of AUTOCAD, ROBOTICS, MANUFACTURING, PRODUCTION, MATERIAL SCIENCE, DESIGN, AUTOMOBILE ENGG. etc

Internships Opportunities

No our college didn't provide any means of internship. But our college had M.tech provisions in mechanical, electrical and civil departments, where the students has to take a class of ours as a part time and they had been allotted with stipend.

Placement Experience

3.5

Our college provide great opportunities regarding jobs and placement, I our batch 70% student got jobs in their own filed. Govt Companies like DVC, WBPDCL, WBSEDCL , Hindustan Motors came for recruitment and also taken many of our batch mates. Private Companies like L&T, CTS, Capegemini, Ericssion also recruited may of our friends.

College Events

4

Our college is full of events that is celebrated every year like: TECH-Fest, Cultural- fest , SOCIAL-fest and many more small events which was held every year in the college. Tech Fest: It includes inter college fest on robotics, coding & programming and also gaming contests. College from Sikkim, Siliguri and others from West Bengal came to this fest and participate in the tech fest. Cultural Fest: Many stage shows were held in our college by renowned artists and bands every year, we all awaits for this fest and enjoy the most. Social Fest: Blood donation camp , Night school camp and many other camps were held where we can do our social responsibilities for the people who are living among us.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure for a govt college is feasible, and there are many scholarships are given to needy fellows for their studies as well as hostel facilities. College provides Half-fee scholarships and Full-fee scholarships for the students who can't afford their fees.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yeah scholarships were given to students who cant afford their fees for studies, and as well as a scholarships were given to meritorious students for their outstanding performances in their own streams. Half-fee scholarships, full-fee scholarships were given to the students who really need due to their family background conditions.

Campus Life

4

Core departments like mechanical, electrical and civil had a low gender ratio, which means among 50 boys maybe 1 girl. But in software departments like computer science, IT, electronics among 10 boys maybe 2 girl. Extracurricular activities, labs sports etc were very good i will say in our college. Among different college students come to participate in robotics competition, debate , coding competitions.

Hostel Facilities

3

Hostel facilities are too good, each hostel has their common room for discussion, and TV for entertainment, and all hostels are equipped with WIFI hotspots and LAN connectivity for internet purposes. Many hostel has single room accommodations as well as dual accommodations with good condition rooms. Indoor actives are also there for individual hostels like carrom, table tennis, badminton, cricket, football etc Food qualities were neither bad nor good i will say, because each hostel comprises of 200 students appx, it is impossible to provide with good dishes all 365 days in a year, like that every month we had a GID (grand ideal dinner) which comprises of very good dishes and it were in numbers, so we all wait for that day to come and can fill our stomach as much as we can.

Exam Structure

First of all i would like to say that practical knowledge give the most enjoyable things a most studies, we have done many labs and may machine shops practical like Machining with Lathe Machine, Boring, Drilling, Welding, etc. We had two semester in a year , one in month of December and other in March/April. along with this we also had to give practical exams in labs and machine shops twice in a year, We enjoyed all the exams and tried to make scores so that we could get better marks to get better jobs in our placements.

Admission

There was a counselling for colleges and stream to be chosen as per rank wise, I had to go with a draft of Rs. 500 for participating in the counselling process, There were many options for me but i always wanted to go for a Govt. College for my B.Tech degree. All preferences were coming up in display screen regarding the number of seats left in particular college as well as particular stream. And from that i chose JGEC as my college for Engg / B tech degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Faculty

4.5

Maximum faculties were much senior and they had quite good knowledge regarding the subjects which were in the respective streams. Many of our faculties were PhD holders, and high degree holders, not only that , they knew the way that how a particular subject to be demonstrated to all the students so that they could easily catch the matter and can apply it in different areas of studies.

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

Placement Experience:

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
