Maharishi Markandeshwar University-Mullana

Initially, I applied for MMU and JMIT(Kurukshetra). JMIT was seen as an ill-functioning college with a discrepancy in the examination system. Moreover, it is situated in a location surrounded by dense forests which are not considered a safe place for students. My admission at MMU was done based on my 12th board percentage. The minimum percentage required for admission at MMU is 65% in 12 board examination. On the day of counselling, we were given a full tour of the whole campus and our guide told each and everything about the college, from the college canteen to the curriculum to the placement data. It was good but could have been better.

I chose this course because I have a keen interest in programming and I want to establish my career in software development. The faculty: student ratio is quite satisfactory in the college. I am not able to predict the exact ratio but from my experience, the students are satisfied with the number of teachers in the college. The majority of the teachers are PhD holders with great research knowledge. Some of the teachers teach from their self-made PPTs while some prefer to teach using the traditional methods of using blackboards and whiteboards. It depends on the subject being taught. The sessional exams are held after every 1-1.5 months and the final exams are held after 4.5-5 months interval. The question paper is neither too easy and nor too difficult. A student who has studied thoroughly would easily pass the exams.

There are many companies that select students for monthly internships. Some of these are Blue Star, Lava, Paytm, HCL, HDFC Bank, etc. There are internships categorized on the basis of the duration like 9 months or 6 months or 2 months.

The students can sit for the campus placements from the 6 semesters onwards. Various product and service based companies visit MMU such as Informatica, Amazon, Reliance, Infosys, Wipro, Deloitte, SpiceJet, etc. The highest package that was provided at MMU was 24 LPA in the year 2018 and the average package offered is 3.2LPA. About 80% of students get placements through campus. I am currently in the phase of acquiring jobs through campus recruitment and I wish to get hired by Informatica.

The annual course fee for Computer science Engineering is Rs. 1,30,000 and the charges for hostel and mess are separate. I received a scholarship of 30% on the basis of my marks in 12 standards which reduced my fees to Rs. 1,11,000.

The main fest of MMU is "Universum" which is organized in the month of September. This consists of various cultural as well as technical events. Technical and coding events are also held from time to time in the college. Students are free to participate in whichever event they like. The library is fully equipped with every book the student needs. There is no need to purchase the course books, students can easily borrow books from the library for the entire semester. There are no closing hours of the library and students can spend their time there whenever they want to. There are fully air-conditioned classrooms in the college with projectors as well as notice boards. They can easily accommodate more than 50 students. The college emphasises co-curricular activities as likely as academics. There are various activities done on the campus like debate, essay writing, sports, drama, art etc. Students can enrol themselves in any area of their interests.
