Vikash Kumar Singh's Review On Birla Institute Of Technology - [BIT Mesra], Ranchi

I took AIEEE and secured a rank of 13064 among 14 lakh students that appeared in 2011 and I decided to join BIT,Mesra under the course of Electrical Engineering as it I had high affinity towards electrical prospects of day-to-day machines used in industries and households and wished to gain knowledge in this stream and come up with better solutions which we face in today's world regarding this area.

The course curriculum was very tedious during the first two years which required us to go through basic concepts from each branch related courses like Engineering Graphics,Mechanical workshop,etc. This helped us to garner basic knowledge and skills from almost all the branches keeping all of us on the same platform.

Our college provide internships depending on the recruiters. If the recruiters coming for final placements have vacancies for interns they recruit students from pre-final year. The stipend varies depending upon the branch. Core branch students are offered between 15-30 k per month while Software interns are offered between 25-50 k per month.

Placement and job opportunities in our college is highly depended upon the branch of a student.Computer science students have the highest ratio of placement offer to students followed by Mechanical, Electronics&Communication and Electrical Engineering students. In our total batch of 800 students 700 were placed with highest package being offered from Direct I being 21 lpa and overall average being 5.5 lpa.

Fee structure increases from first year to last year along the 8 semesters. Since BIT is a private institute the fee structure is quite expensive if compared to any government institute but if compared to other private institutes based on ROI the fee structure seems worth every penny. My total fees submitted during the four years was amounted to 7 lakhs including hostel mess fees . The semester fees varied from 70 thousand in first semester to 95 thousand in the eigth semester.

Scholarships are provided to the topper of the batch every semester. Further more monthly scholarship is provided to students belonging to reserved category.

Campus is filled with lush green trees all across the area from roads to around the buildings. The apparatus in labs are up to date with state of art lecture halls and computer labs. The sports stadium being large enough to accommodate various sport grounds simultaneously.

I was provided with single room in all my semesters .The semester fees for hostel was 10 k during first two years which was increased later to 15 k from third year.On an average day mess food was decent. Breakfast was different for each day and healthy.

Alumni network is quite helpful in improving placement through out the years and providing ample learning opportunities. Various alumni are connected to current students via BIT alumni network website.

We had evaluation processes held in two parts: Mid-term examination and Final Semester examination. Lab exams were held once per semester during the final month before End Semester exams when classes were mostly finished. Hence,we had ample time to focus on lab exams without hindering our theory exams preparations.

After the score and ranks of AIEEE were declared. I applied for the course of Electrical engineering and Mechanical Engineering from BIT via online counselling.I was allotted the seat and called for registration process after 4th counselling. I went through previous year placement records and alumni networks and after further analysing my future interests and studies requirements.

The faculty throughout my years in BIT has been ever inspiring and supportive. Right from theory classes to labs we found our professors to be helpful and knowledgeable.
