Remarks
I did not apply to any other college. I got admission through JEE-Advanced. The program cut off is around 5000-6000 in the common Rank List. I joined through JOSAA counselling. They provided the list of colleges that were available for my rank and then several rounds of allotments were done to achieve the final allotment which is often the best possible college you get from this counselling.
Course Curriculum Overview
I had an interest in Physics. I also wanted to get into an IIT. The best college and branch combo I got was this program, IMSc in Physics at IIT Roorkee. I did not bother about looking into the faculty-student ratio because I thought it is an IIT so it must have excellent academics.
Internships Opportunities
Several companies approach the placement call for internships. Top companies offer upto 2 lakh per month of stipend, while a huge amount of companies come in the 25000-1.5 lakh slab. The high stipend companies generally come for development roles, while the low stipend varies from analyst to operations manager.
Placement Experience
Placements are extremely good here. If you master any skill that a company asks for, you will definitely get a job on-campus placements. The placement procedure is very smooth and supportive for students.
Fees and Financial Aid
Since it is a central government-funded institution, fees are not an issue. If you are above an income slab, you will have to pay the maximum fees. If you are below that slab you only have to pay 1/3rd of the fees. While the poorest of all have to pay only for hostel and mess charges. Also if you come from ST/SC, you get offers to waive off your mess fess as well. There are several scholarships available to almost all the needy students. They can also avail an easy student loan to fund their studies.
Campus Life
Two fests, Thomso in October and Cognizance in March. A huge library with access to almost all the books and journals. Classrooms are good but with a few issues like improper audio systems. Clubs are very good here. They provide an excellent platform for students to interact with each other and seniors.
Hostel Facilities
We get single rooms from sophomores. Rooms have basic facilities like light, fan, charging points and LAN services inbuilt. Water cooler and heater facilities are available on each floor. The meal is good enough while some students find it difficult to cope with mess food.
