Remarks
I applied for UIET, CCET and PEC. I choose PEC as it offered the best placement offers. I didn't avail any quota based on caste but I got preference for having done my Higher secondary from Chandigarh. Admission cutoffs for each branch fluctuate each year. They are also different for different quotas. At my time of admission, the cutoff for mechanical engineering was around AIR 30000 for students from Chandigarh. On the counseling day, we are asked to bring our documents like JEE mains result and other identity proofs. We are asked to bring in a demand draft of 40000rs, to get our seats fixed. Ones who made this payment of Rs 40000 could then apply for subsequent rounds of counseling and this amount was adjusted in the semester fees.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum needs to be updated. I choose Mechanical engineering as I wanted to be design engineer. So I was keen to learn CAD and CAM softwares. The faculty ratio was good, we had different professors for different courses and the ratio was around 10:1. But some teachers did not teach savy and they had not upskilled themselves. although the college had advanced machinery the teachers still preferred to show us old lathes and mills. We had 2 exams per semester, Midterm and End term evaluation. It was not very difficult to pass. Questions in the exams were from assignments or quizzes, so passing was not an issue.
Internships Opportunities
Microsoft, Trident, Airbus, ITC, Amazon, Maruti Suzuki, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan and Chase offered internships. Analyst roles, Graduate engineering trainee, Software and Web development roles etc. were offered. The minimum number of students being offered was around 5-10K to 1.5L per month. For example, I was an intern at Sunstone Eduversity, Gurgaon. I was offered the role of a Business analyst and was offered a stipend of 25k. My role was making dashboards, generating reports, and Making investor presentations. My role was quite cross-functional and was part of many different teams like the Academics team and the Operations team.
Placement Experience
We become eligible for placement during our final years. But we can also get a placement offer from Internships which we mandatorily undertake during the 7th semester. Various companies including Amazon, Exxon Mobile, ITC, Trident, Oyo, Microsoft, Sandisk, Texas instruments, etc. visited our campus. During the covid, the number of offers made was less, but I suppose almost 60-70% of the students had at least one offer on hand. The average package offered was around 5-6 LPA. I want to do a job after my degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees remained constant for a batch but there was a surge of around 10000 after each batch. Scholarships were provided to class toppers and the rank openers of each batch. We also had scholarships for toppers amongst Girls, SC, and ST students, and EWS students. No on-campus jobs were provided.
Campus Life
We had Perfect every year. It was publicized as the biggest technocultural fest of North India. Also, we had plenty of technical and cultural clubs. The library was huge, we had access to a lot of books that could take home for a semester. Classrooms were quite basic. but we had some rooms with ACs, and smart screens as well. Sports and cultural amenities were available but were not always accessible. For example, the Gym could be accessed only after 5 pm till 7 pm. We had plenty of social clubs, NSS, Rotract club, Counselling cell, etc. Students were quite involved in various clubs and societies.
Other Applied Colleges
