Remarks
Chose PEC over NIT K, NIT J, Thapar etc. PEC due to less quota had better student lot and provided a great exposure for all round development. Also the quality of life here at PEC is great (Chandigarh). No, I did not avail any quota. JEE Mains marks were considered and closing rank was around 20k. The admission process was mainly about document verification and took half a day to get completed.
Course Curriculum Overview
Was intrigued by automobiles, so chose mechanical over other branches. Faculty: Student ratio is around 1:15. Faculty was high educated and trained. Most of them with a PhD degree. The teaching method was a bit conventional. Exams were conducted twice every semester (MST, EST) and their level was above that of classroom education.
Internships Opportunities
Internships are amazing followed by PPOs by various companies. Average per month stipend was 25k for mechanical and higher for curcuital branches. All sorts of domains are available by the companies. The internship is of 6 months during the 6th semester and provides a great exposure to the students.
Placement Experience
Campus placments and internships are great with an average package of over 6,00,000 and average per month stipend around 25k. A number of technical (Trident, Hero, Maruti etc ) visited the campus and Non tech (JP Morgaon, Amazon, ZS etc ) along with a large pool of startups visited. For mechanical, more than 50% of the batch got placed but was higher was Circuital branches.
Fees and Financial Aid
The total fees of the program including all sorts of expenditures for a hosteller was around 8,00,000 and for a day scholar, it was 5,00,000. Various scholarships were provided based on financial background. The placements here were great (compared to other colleges). An average of 6,00,000 p.a. could be expected by the students.
Campus Life
The college fest (PECFEST) is conducted every year in the month of November. It is a 3 day fest and had both cultural and technical events followed by mega show events during the night time. Library had almost all the books required during the program or the soft copies are made available. All sorts of sports and extracurricular activity is available on the campus. Sports like Cricket, football, badminton, Volleyball etc were played by students almost everyday. Gym is also inside the campus only. Their were a number of student run orgainisations in almost every field- technical, non technical (Entrepreneurship, Event managment), Cultural, NGO's and NPO's.
Hostel Facilities
The hostels were like a typical government hostels. Not very hygienic and the food quality was not very great. The hostels were very affordable, like 60k per year for an individual room and 30k per year for a double sharing room + 2k / month for mess. Alternatively, PGs were available near the college so many people shifted there. They were costlier compared to the hostels.
Other Applied Colleges
NIT Kurukshetra | B. Tech Mechanical Engineering
PEC provided a better exposure compared to other colleges and had relative location advantage.
