Remarks
I applied for many other colleges but PEC was the best choice possible for me, taking into consideration the location of the college and the placements. The minimum qualification one needs to have is the criteria for giving the JEE exam, ie, at least 75% marks in Class 12 boards. The JEE Mains rank should be at least 20000. The admission process was smooth and the day went through very fast. I was allotted to the Hostel room on the same day where I met many friends.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose the Mechanical Engineering course because of my interest in physics and my knack for solving problems. The student Faculty ratio can be improved. However, for many of our core courses the ratio was as good as 1:15 and for other nontechnical courses as high as 1:60. After each semester we were eligible for giving a comprehensive and anonymous review about our professors. Most of our senior profs had a PhD in the subject they taught. Some even had multiple publications in very famous journals but others were sub-par. So it was overall a mixed bag. The term exams were held on time and most were challenging.
Internships Opportunities
Many companies offer internship offers during semester 5. The stipend offered is usually on an average 25,000 rupees and can be as high as 1,00,000 rupees per month for Circuital companies like Microsoft etc. Usually the projects offered by the companies differ for each of them and my own experience dealing with planning and execution in a car manufacturing plant
Placement Experience
The students are eligible for campus placements from semester 7. Various companies like Microsoft and PhonePay visit for the circuital branches and companies like Maruti Suzuki, Exxon mobile for core Mechanical students and other companies like McKinsey, Collegedunia, etc for the non-core students. The average package was 7.5 lpa and the highest one offered was upwards of 40 LPA. At least 90% of students are placed among those who apply for placements.
Fees and Financial Aid
The cost to study is not cheap but it isn't expensive either. The fee hikes could have been lowered during the pandemic. The hostel fees were on the lower side. Various scholarships are available for the disadvantaged sections of society. There's also financial assistance for top rankers. I couldn't avail any of those.
Campus Life
The annual cultural fest and the Tech fest are clubbed together and held over a period o 3 days. The name is PECfest and is attended by a host of people from in and around Chandigarh. It's held in the first week of October. Books and JOurnals are plentily available for a wide range of topics. The classrooms may or may not have Air conditioning units. But most of them have a Digital board. The campus has a lot of opportunities for sports like cricket, football, and table tennis, etc. Many clubs and societies are run by the students and famously organize many events all around the year.
Hostel Facilities
Most of the rooms provide a basic facility of electrical connectivity and an almirah, a table and a chair. The meal quality varies from hostel to hostel but it's usually okay. The hostels aren't expensive. They are usually alloted to students residing outside the tricity.
