Remarks
Along with PEC, I also applied for NIT Jalandhar and Thapar University of Technology. Considering the excellent placement records at PEC and a dynamic city as Chandigarh, I opted PEC only. Back in 2017, PEC's admission process was conducted by JOSAA but I guess that has changed now, The admission process is streamlined. Firstly, students are asked to reach PU (which is near to PEC), submit the documents, then to PEC. Hostel allotment and admission process there is streamlined. There isn't any kind of unnecessary delays.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is well structured. For someone who has a keen interest in mechanical engineering, PEC is one of the best places to be at. There are labs, advanced labs for hands-on practical experience. There is experienced faculty at PEC who are always there to help but once needs to self-study (a lot) and must do smart work in order to score good grades.
Internships Opportunities
Companies begin to visit campus in 5th semester and students go for Internships in 6th semester. Some of the companies that visit PEC are Microsoft, Amazon, JP Morgan, McKinsey, Bain, Maruti Suzuki, Hero, L&t and many more. Roles offered are of various fields like Operations, Consulting, Coding, Analytics and many more and all come with a decent stipend. One best thing about PEC is that a mentor from college is allocated to each student and in case of any issues during an internship, one can reach out to his/her mentor. This gives a sense of security to students.
Placement Experience
In 3rd year (5th semester), the Internship cycle at PEC begins and goes on throughout the semester and in the next semester i.e. 6th semester, students are sent to their respective companies for their approx. 6 months of training. Placements at PEC begin in 4th year (7th semester) and it goes on for a complete year. A few of the many companies that visits are Microsoft (42Lac CTC), Amazon, JP Morgan, Mckinsey, Bain and many more. For mechanical engineers and similar fields, there are ITC, Maruti Suzuki, JCB, L&T, Hero, and many more. Students at PEC opt for higher education abroad also, which makes the alumni base more diverse.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition fees at PEC for a batch of 2021 is Rs 60250 with an increment of approx. Rs 2000 after subsequent year. For quota students, tuition fees varies accordingly. For SC, it's Rs5000 per year. Hostel fees is the same for everyone (irrespective of the quota) i.e. Rs 60250. Financial assistance is provided to students by the alumni. Especially, during the 1st wave, many alumni at PEC came forward to assist students in difficult times.
Campus Life
Campus life at PEC is as amazing as one can possibly imagine. It's not just the campus vibe but the city itself that makes the overall experience at PEC so amazing. There aren't many stringent rules at PEC which makes the overall environment more chill. PECfest, the annual fest at PEC is one of the biggest fest of North India. One can't miss the fest, the vibe at that time is just so difficult in words. Regarding the books, there aren't enough books at the library for every student, not even for 20% of the total students.
Hostel Facilities
At first glance, PEC hostels are one of the last places one wants to spend his/her 4 years. But with time, one just got accustomed to it. Hostels are avalaible for everyone except students with chandigarh quota. Mess is ok ok, depends on which hostel one is staying.
