Entrance Preview

I took admission in JU through WBJEE examination. My state rank was 136. No interview was there, direct admission after counselling. Jadavpur University is on the top of the list among the colleges which give admissions through WBJEE. JU is renowned for experienced faculty members. Moreover, it is a govt. college, hence fees are very less, beyond imagination.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

Course structure is comprehensive and covers the syllabus of GATE/IES. Electrical course covers each and every part of this stream. But some modifications can be done in laboratory works. Especially, the electrical laboratory methods need to be improvised. A lot of time is wasted in writing the laboratory reports. Instead, they should be more practical oriented.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, JU provides internships in some departments. CSE/IT students get most of the internships as usual. Samsung, Amazon, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs take some of the interns from JU. For Electrical engineering, companies like CESC,WBSEDCL offer internships to the students. Some of them offer PPO as well. Besides these students can also opt for off-campus internships through their own contacts.

Placement Experience

4

In electrical, out of 100 students, around 58 were placed in core companies in 2014. Total 88 students were placed including ITs. Though placement was below satisfactory in 2014. Following were some of the core companies in electrical CESC - 6 LPA, L&T - 5.5 LPA, RIL - 6 LPA, Tata steel - 5 LPA, Tata chemicals - 5 LPA, Sankalp Semiconductor - 4.2 LPA.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Tuition fees are very less in Jadavpur university, since it is govt. sponsored. It is also feasible for poor people as well. A total course of 4 year demands only 10,000 rupees. All the UG courses has a tuition fee of Rs. 2400 annually. There is an exception for Information Technology. It is around 30,000 for IT, mainly because of the infrastructure required in this course.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

I did not opt for hostel. I stayed in a ladies PG near to the college. During my time, rents were somewhat around 5k including food and lodging. Food includes lunch and dinner. Food quality was good. Though it was called PG, but it was a kind of mess, where 50 girls were accommodated in a 3 storey building.

Exam Structure

Labs were interesting but some of them got boring mainly due to the procedure of submitting the lab reports. In electrical, microprocessor lab, electronics lab were very interactive and requires one to make use of his/her brain. But electrical lab was hectic mainly because of the hand-written reports which we had to submit.

Admission

After the WBJEE result was out, date of counselling was also declared after some days, depending on rank. Counselling was held at Yuvabharati krirangan stadium (2010). During counselling, one gets the chance to choose college as well as stream and then they are sent to respective college desks where some formalities are done. Then we went for admission in the campus on a specific date.

Faculty

4

Faculty members are highly qualified. Some of them have industrial experience too, hence their teaching methods are very much practical oriented and relevant to industries. They are always accessible to the students. Whenever any doubt arises, we could freely contact our teachers.

Placement Experience:

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

Placement Experience:

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
