Remarks

For my Masters in Psychology, I applied in Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi and got selected for my first attempt. It is a central university providing a vast number of courses and one of the best being MA/MSc in Psychology with great faculty. I belong to the general category and wasn't eligible for any quota. The cut off for the main campus of Banaras Hindu University is usually high with students obtaining marks as high as 394/400. Minimum marks could be 160/400 for the reserved category. As of age limit is considered, students under 40 years of age can apply. We only have to clear the written exam for the entrance test, the next step is counselling and getting your documents verified. If anyone misses, counselling day, their chance of selection is nill.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I did my Bachelor's degree in Psychology (H). As someone residing in Varanasi, BHU seems to be the best option as it is Internationally renowned University. So, I chose this course because it is one of the best suitable for me. The faculty to students ration is 1:8 and the faculty members are one of the best in their field, few of them being gold medalists and researches with high H index. The theoretical aspects that they teach is simple and easy to get, one can become a specialists in Statistics, every student is been attended to and made sure they're getting what is been taught. The teaching method is a mix of old school + modern ways by showing PPT etc. Lectures are really beneficial to pass the exams with flying colours. External exams were being scheduled on time and notified prior, Internals dates can vary depending upon the situation. Exams are easy to pass if one has attended the lectures, read notes and paid attention to past question papers.

Placement Experience

3

In Psychology, the campus placement cell is restricted and 2nd-year Master's Organizational psychology students are eligible for campus placements. As for other students of Psychology who chose another field, there are no campus placement opportunities. There were 10 students selected from my batch out of 15 who were eligible candidates. As I was someone from a Clinical Psychology background, I am not very aware of companies that visited and the highest package they offer. All I can say is, If you chose to study MA Psychology at BHU you'll get a broad spectrum of subjects to chose from but if you don't select organizational psychology in your Masters final year, there are no placement opportunities for you. As far as other departments are considered, the percentage of students being placed is quite high as compared to Psychology students.

Fees and Financial Aid

One of the pros of getting admission to the Main Campus of Banaras Hindu University is that the course is really affordable and negligible as compared to other universities and colleges. There will never be a financial burden on students when it comes to paying University fees. There are Scholarships given provided by govt., such as, UP Scholarship which can be availed by certain students, I don't know if there is any other scholarship as I said, the fee is very low. 3000 per year for a course and that's it. There are certain On-Campus job provided by the University for certain students who need financial assistance for which the student has to be vigilant when the Notice comes up, they can fill a form for the same, chose a category such as work as an assistant librarian or work in labs and then an interview is conducted and selection is done.

Campus Life

4.5

There are 2 major fests held in the University. First is Spandan, Annual Cultural Fest which is held in Spet-Oct after faculty fests of FSS, FOC are over and the selected candidates get a chance to perform in the Annual fest, known as Spandan. Another fest is, KashiYatra, organized by IIT BHU which is an annual tech fest including many other events. All faculty students are welcomed to perform. BHU has a Central Library, one of its kind. It has a plethora of books ranging from old to new and has a section of the digital library as well. Classrooms of the uni are well equipped with satisfactory amenities & every class has a Digi board. As far as sports and other activities are considered, there are different clubs such as Sports club and Musical club for which students have to make effort to be a part of, the vast Campus of BHU provides many sports stadium and grounds to practice and play when interfaculty competitions are being held.

Placement Experience:

The placement here at Sharda was too good. Students start attending the Placement interviews and calls from the last semester. I was personally made into 4 companies and 4 offer letters were offered to me. The average package is 3.8 lakhs per annum and highest was about 11 lakhs. There is 100% placement in every dept. but it depends on students if they want to attend or not. After getting the degree i studied for my PhD entrace and now i am working.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Since I wanted to become an English Professor, the course really helped me a lot in getting an insight into English Literature. The professors are very encouraging. The curriculum not only relies on the traditional method of teaching but also various co curricular activities are conducted to prepare the students for the real world. Each student is given an opportunity to prove herself. As the exams are conducted annually we get a lot of time to prepare accordingly.

Overall, I can say that my experience of the college for postgraduate degree is good as of now. Although the course is good, but, I would want more focus to be put on practical learning because after all, it is a practical subject. Other than that, I am content with the facilities provided by the college. I was very interested in the subject and love it personally, so it is a great experience for me.
