Looking into the reality of ' Not so known' college - IIT ISM, Dhanbad

Factors-:1- NEEDI wanted a CORE stream in either CORE IIT or converted colleges like BHU or ISM2- IIT ISM 's has vast alumni baseBeing a college of 1926, Its alumni's are all over the world and are sitting at top positions of their respective fields(ISMAANA, ISMAAUK etc), this would allow me to go to foreign university/job comparatively easily. 3- PlacementsIt became IIT in 2016 , and since then its growth is great, within 4 years it is able to increase its average package from 7 lakhs to 11 lakhs , this rate of change is better than IIT BHU(rate of change) .(ref main website NIRF data) . Moreover PPO, off campus placements are not taken into account in those data ( in core IIT they do, to inflate the package) . The package in PPO and off campus placement is far better and many seniors are able to score it.4- CampusBeing an Old college, It has proper infrastructure , all facilities that core IITs have and nonetheless huge campus!5- MoU with many foreign universitiesThis would allow me to easily undergo foreign semester exchange, hence opening an opportunity to go abroad.6- Location/ connectivity is disadvantageNo airport , remote location , deprives the college of calling some international companies ( although students are easily able to make in via off campus placement.IIT bombay , delhi, kanpur are at advantage because of this( even their manipulated data)7- Strong senior-junior bondThis is one of the most important factor , that IIT ISM can boast of, other colleges does like roorkee , bombay does'nt have this like ism. Seniors mentor their junior in future for any exam/job placement.8- Huge alumni base in field of Consulting-management-financeThis is something any new IIT , top NIT's lag in! All top companies are coming like barclays,MCkinsey,BCG,bain, pwc are coming to ISM and hiring students but not in above mentioned colleges! This was one the main factor in choosing IIT ISM.9- Bad reputation/not known on social networking sites like quoraPeople have tried to defame by answering anonymously, that too 5-6 years back, when ISM was not IIT, on reading on quora about IIT ISM , it could turn out to be worst nightmare to choose this college. The college has evolved soo much ,overcome each of the drawbacks mentioned their within 1 years of converting into IIT including the advancement in streams. Hence those can be easily ruled out !10- OpportunitiesBeing into the college for 7 months , I have been able to prove myself with soo many oppurtunites , competitions and even internships.Based on above factors I researched myself , I choose IIT ISM chemical over other colleges.

male:female :: 5.67 :1 (acc to times higher education) (highest no. of females took admission in 2019)Qualification - Nearly all the prof, associate prof, assistant prof are PHd from well reputed foreign universities. (data available on main website of clg in NIRF section)Teaching methods- Just like any Core IIT ; some profs use animation , ppt's to explain their subject well , some simply read out from their own published textbooks but each and every teacher is knowledgeable in his field and entertain doubts very well!Term Exams-Very tough , strict marking and time bound papers.20 mins would be given for a question + 5mins to upload the answer sheet then and there , followed by a next question released after 25 mins by prof , after locking the previous question.Difficulty-I solved IIT BHU , ROORKEE endsem papers easily , compared to those IIT ISM is definitely making tougher papers atleast in online mode

Being a first year , college will not be providing any internship , However companies reguraly come with some lucrative offers , so I did 3 internships as of now1- Worked as Subject Matter Expert at Direction Educare in jalandar , punjab -- work -to prepare solutions in easy way to explain the user. Problems were of PCM domainduration -30 days , stipend was Rs 7 per question, ended up earning Rs 7000.2- Student trainee at EXPLORINproject on consultinganalysed the data and structure of different educational models present in the country like online course eg NPTEL , classroom courses eg Allen, Fiitjee , Internship cum course sites like verseo, intenshala.main focus was to analyse how are they targeting their audience, what is their source of income, how are they able to expand and what is the idea behind their cause3- Collegetips.in - Marketting and content creation I had to deal with 400+ people , persuade them to sign up for vaccine ,hence their campaign, and was able to gather 208 registrations in 5 days!. , followed by video creation for digital literacy course.duration - 30 monthsstipend-Rs 5k

IIT tag ultimately attracts companies let it be of any domain.Students from 7 th semester have to sit in placement seasons.However non-availability of airport , limits it from calling some companies.Microsoft,amazon , goldman sachs , google ,oracle , mckinsey, Bloomberg, BCG, ONGC , Barclays , Detushe bank ,HP, BNY melon and many more top leading companies recruit students in heavy amount each year.For the year 2021, Highest package recieved till date is from google of Rs 54.57 lakhs to 7 students , microsoft as always stands to recruit huge number of students.profiles of coding , software developer , tech analyst, consulting , financial analyst, management consulting is common.Taking into account (data available at iitism.ac.in)Total students -1056On campus placements - 699Off campus placements - 154Higher Studies- 142total placed-995so percentage placed is 94.235 %considering only ON campus placement (which does not make sense ) is 67%After degree , I'm aiming for a mangement consulting/fincance/analyst jobor for MBA degree from foreign university.

Being a government college, there is no regular fee hike policyFor GENERAL and OBC category students , full fees per semester i.e 1.26lkh for even semesters and 1.12 lkhs for odd semesters has to be paid.FOR SC & ST candidate - there is no fees except hostel fees (around 6k per sem for all)scholarships like MeritCumMeans(low income students below 5lkh) , numerous alumni association funded scholarships are available (info available on site ) , There are many more scholarships ONLY available for SC , ST,girl candidates, If you are general candidate , there is merely any compensation.jobs are only for m.tech, PHD students

Library is newly made so it contains all modern facilities like private cubical , e- library and many more facilities Classrooms in NLHC are air conditioned, proper ventilation , projectors .IIT ISM has nearly all types of sports facilities from swimming pool , cricket, football to squash courts , boxing ring , gymnasiums and athletic ground.ALL clubs are functional covering all categories likevideography /editing- LCI dance -WTC(street dance club) , LITM (classical dance club)music- Manthan Acting/Drama - ADCPoetry/shyari - Chaynika sanghSports - sub divisions in each categoryDebate/GD - LITCRobotics clubMeditation,life, holy books - RYTHMN clubNGO based clubs(teaching poor students , donation and welfare) - kartavya , Fast Forward India (FFI)Photography- FotofreaksReporting, news journals , editing - Mailer DaemonStand ups - Comedy clubConsulting club->case study- ( mainly for MBAs)Speaking skills , leadership qualities- Toastmasters , Tedx iit ism.App /web development - E-cellcoding .problem solving - CODEISMALL these above mentioned clubs are run by students and is funded by college.There are technically all the clubs in each category, and have done phenomenal work in their fields from winning inter IIT's to winning international competitions.Hence the competition inside is rough and no more then a core IIT.

In all IIT's , Hostel is compulsary for everyone. Hence , I have no choice to choose from.In rooms of JASPER hostel- 1 almirah , 2 beds, 1 study table , fan , light is provided in (boys hostel) , many more facilities are present in girls hostel.The meal is of average quality in JASPER , whereas in hostels where 2-3-4years are residing is comparatively much better and delicious.Menu includes Paneer , dal and other indian vegetables. Non veg, egg is also provide twice in a week!College decided own its own ,which hostel and room number has to allotted.For 1 Semester , it costs around Rs 6.5k with a variable cost of around +-200.All hostels are within the lush green campus , and due to greenery the temperature is somewhat less than the city.
