Remarks
IIT Madras secured NIRF rank 1 for the last 5 years. IIT Madras also has a very good startup culture with incubators, E-Cell club and funding. Any old IIT has a very big alumni network which is very useful in the long run. Old IITs have well established clubs and fests which will help in developing our character and skills. I contacted some friends and family to get their inputs on what college to choose. I also went through their websites to know more about each college to decide more.
Course Curriculum Overview
IIT Madras has one of the best EE departments in India. Most of the professors have done their Phds and higher studies in foreign universities.They have a lot of work as well as research experience. IITs usually get a lot of funding for their projects. Faculty: student ratio is quite small and I guess that's a common issue with most of the IITs and colleges in India. We have 2 quizzes and 1 endsem for every course. But that does change depending on the prof who is teaching the course, some may have only endsem, some prefer projects and paper presentation. Most of the courses have relative grading. So, even if the paper is tough, it's tough for everyone, and so your grade depends on how well you performed compared to your batchmates.
Internships Opportunities
Internship season happens during pre-final year. I havent sat for the internships yet. But from what I heard from other ppl, most of the big companies which come for placements come for internships as well. Projects and tasks depend on the company and role.
Placement Experience
IITs have comparitively more opps than other colleges. Placement happens in the 7th-8th sem for btech students and 9th-10th sem for dual degree students. Students also go abroad for further studies. Some start their own startup.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Per Sem: 1Lac for tution fees, approx 30k for hostel and other charges.There are many scholarships for low income and underprivileged students and those usually will help them cover their tution fees. The amount, name usually depends on the IIT, their branch (Some branches have extra scholarships depending on who is sponsoring it).If you like to earn extra income during college, there are many internship opps which keep coming. You could also use your JEE knowledge to help school students prep for their JEE through various platforms and earn some money.
Campus Life
Shaastra - Tech fest - January Saarang - Cultural fest - JanThese are one of the biggest in the country.We have CFI (Centre for inovation) which is a student run org consisting of clubs (robotics, analytics, CVI, electronics, hyperloop, racing team, mars rover team) which conduct sessions to upskill the students. We have competitions being conducted every month in all areas (say dance, music, tech related, sports). We have a large collection of books in the library and subsription to most of the journals. IIT M is a 600 acre campus, lots of greenery, wildlife (deer, black bucks, monkeys). Please do visit the IITM website (You could find all information about campus life and acad life as well).
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are old, rooms are small, meal quality (7/10).Menu : North and south india, we also have jain food. We also have many shops and restaurants in the campus.Cost: approx 30k .
