My Life at SRM.

A great place to be if you want to learn, lead and excel. The college provides everyone an opportunity to excel in life. It is disciplined, motivating and a good place to shape your career.

SRMEEE was the entrance examination. My rank was in 6000s approx. I have chosen this college because it is one of the best private institutions in this country. The students here are from diverse backgrounds(including abroad). It has state of the art facilities and a number of opportunities to learn, grow and excel.

Course Curriculum is outstanding. All the theory subjects were also practically studied. Unlike other colleges, we did our internship twice to get more knowledge on the real world scenarios of Electrical and electronics. We were taken to various power stations in Chennai and Kerala. Our Course is also accredited by ABET and thus our curriculum was fully equipped to check for thorough understanding of concepts and applications.

No. Our college has two Industrial Training Programs. But Students are allowed to internships if it is adding value to their career. We just had to appear for our examinations.

Placements are reasonably good. Every year 100% placements are achieved. TCS, Wipro are the largest recruiters followed by MuSigma, Vedanta, Honeywell et cetera. SRM's students have a strong base with Wipro and TCS. That is probably one of the main reasons why these companies keep visiting year after year to the campus.

Aarush - The tech Fest - An inter college technological festival conducting events on Robotics, Paper Presentations, Debates, Discussions. Milan - The Cultural Festival - A intra college cultural event with Singing, Dancing, DJ nights, Fashion Shows, Musical concerts and all.

Fees is little bit on the higher edge owing to all the learning and experiences. Since it is a private institute it has to charge for catering all those needs. Also the books for 1st year students are included in the fees and most of the books for 2nd year on wards are available in library. The food of all varieties are available in the mess.

All the consistent toppers are provided with full scholarships (both college fees and hostel fees). Apart from these, there are also need based scholarships and sports scholarships.

Campus life is awesome. It is a complete green campus and a number of parks and play grounds are put up for students to recreate themselves. All the hostels have TV rooms, TT boards, Caroms, chess et cetera. The gender ratio is good. Approximately there equal number of boys and girls. Extra curricular activities are already discussed above.

Hostel facilities are fair enough. We have hostels with common bath, attached bath, Single accommodation, NRI hostels and international hostels.All the hostels are Wi-Fi enabled and the entire campus has Generator backup. Hostels have hot water facilities. There are around 20 canteens in the campus along with a Subway. The mess provides north Indian, south indian and continental cuisines. There is also a 3 star hotel (SRM Hotel) inside the campus.

All the students while passing out are required to register with SRM alumni team. The students would be frequently mailed regarding the college updates and the college would frequently ask the students to update their details. SRM students are present globally. This provides the college and the students a great base to excel in their careers.

Exams are evenly distributed through out the semester. The internal and external weight ages are same (50% each). The final semester exams are application oriented testing students understanding of concepts and applying them to different situations in real life. All the scores are normalized and relatively graded on a score of 10. The final GPAs and CGPAs are then awarded.

The entrance exam was conducted in the month of March 2010. The results were out in May. Counselling sessions were conducted in two weeks time in the campus itself. On the counselling day itself, a video was presented highlighting the features of the college. We had a couple of interactive sessions with seniors and senior faculties. The classrooms, mess, library tours were provided for those who wished to. And finally (after all these processes) based on the availability of seats, we were allocated the branches of engineering.

Faculty were excellent. Most of the faculties were PhD holders and were very insightful and knowledgeable. They gave us challenging assignments and made sure we did them. They were quickly accessible as most of the faculties used to stay inside the campus itself. All the faculties are tech savvy and thus used latest technological means to answer our queries (fb,watsapp et cetera).
