Entrance Preview

I took COMED-K 2014 (engineering) and my score was 105/180 and the rank was somewhere around 3700. I had chosen NIE, mysore in the 1st counseling but at that time I wasn't aware of the placement record of this college. This college is a part of the PES group and its growth in the last 9 years was amazing(2005-2014) so thats why I chose this college.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

PESIT,BSC follows the VTU curriculum so its kind of old age. However they changed/revised the syllabus for the 2015 batch(i am in the 2014 batch). Its pretty much same with minor changes. you ll have to be self-motivated if you have some interest in research and stuff. some of the teachers will encourage you to write research papers. the CSE dept has its own research. overall what they teach in class and ask in exams is not so useful in the industry today. Use internet as a tool to keep up with the latest tech.

Internships Opportunities

The placements are nice but they are not really cool about the students going for internship. They want an attendance of 85% although its relaxed to 75% but that's not enough. If your attendance is below 75% they won't give you an NOC for internship(personal experience). I don't have much knowledge about the stipend because I have never heard of students getting an internship through college. Mostly students get it on their own.

Placement Experience

4

The placement for CSE and ISE are really good. Mech and ECE do suffer here. Almost all the students who go for placements get placed , however there are always some who opt for higher studies. You can get LORs(Letter of Recommendations) to top universities abroad. Some of the heavyweight faculties have a very good reach last year on of my senior (2012-2016 batch) got placed in code nation at 24 lpa. average package here is 4-5 lpa.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Pretty expensive for management students around 3-4 lcs pa i came through comed-K so its 1.5lcs PA for me 50K for CET students(quite affordable) they take the exam fee for both the sems and the stationary fee as well with the college fee itself so its reasonable compared to other colleges (1200+2500) the hostel fee structure is like this 1.1 lcs pa boys hostel is in campus where as girls hostel is around 4 kms from college.

Campus Life

3.5

Gender ration in cse, ise and ece is pretty good, 50-50, however in mech its really bad. 2014 batch has a gender ratio of 6:174. You will make a lot of friends in hostel for sure. We had CS and FIFA tournaments. It was quite fun. You find people from all over India however the majority is from Karnataka and Andhra. We have different workshops from time time to time. Say twice or thrice a months. There is always something happening in college you just have to show some interest. You can lean a lot of stuff here. we have inter-college and inter-dept sports tournaments(Cricket, Football, Basketball, Badminton, TT, Chess) and we have won quite a few.

Hostel Facilities

3

Boys hostel: its a 9 floor building in campus so you get to use the facilities like library, basketball court n stuff. The newer batch have been accommodated near the girls hostel. They have a 7 pm curfew. The food as usual is not as good. You better eat and rate for yourself. I would rate it around 3/5. Beware if your out of your home for the first time. Girls hostel: 4 kms from college. Has a curfew of 6 pm and they are darn serious about it. They ll make you write apology letter stuff and call your parents even if you report at 6:01 pm. The interior of the hostel is nice with 2 double bed bunkers in a room (4 ppl). mess food is same as boys hostel and u can't get food delivered from outside after 8 pm(weird rules).

Alumni/Alumna

The seniors are very very helpful. Even with the kind of knowledge they have they are very grounded always ready to help you or a least I have been lucky enough to be friends with such people we had a few seniors(who were placed and were working then) mentoring us during Ingenius 2016 so it was wonderful.

Exam Structure

The exam structure is pretty chilled out. We have 3 internal assessment test in the whole sem. Each internal spans overs 3 days(2 subjects a day) which is manageable. Labs exams are done at the end of sem. You get enough time to prepare for lab exams also. You get a good 1 month preparation leave before the final exam with a few lab exams in between. The final exam has enough gap in between to prepare/revise.

Admission

You need to fill the comed-K form and write the comed-k exam. for us it was offline, we had to come to bangalore and write the exam. now its online also i guess. the candidates get the ranks according to their score in the exam. It has a 2 phase counseling system and you have to come to bangalore for counseling which goes on for several days according to your rank you get a slot. during the counseling u need to bring a DD of 50K payable to COMED-K for resrevation of seat. after the reseravtion is done you need to visit the college in person for admission. Make sure you have your parents/ guardian with you. PES makes a big fuss out of as you are just "kids" and they are dealing in lakhs here.

Faculty

3.5

Its a mixed bag. Some of the teachers are really nice and will motivate you to do well while other will just try to shove it down your throat(they basically want you to mug everything even if you don't understand it all the classes are equipped with projectors, some of the faculties over use it while others stick to making the class more interactive. I personally like the second kind. they have a faculty feedback session at the end of every semester.
