NIPUN IYER's Review On K. J. Somaiya School Of Engineering - [KJSCE], Mumbai

Since Its only been a semester in the college , I cannot conclude but nevertheless the beginning has been great and hence I am sure that the four years are gonna be amazing i already feel like a veteran here right from the seniors to our teachers, all are co-operative and helpful our principal is one of the most humble persons that i have seen it is rightfully one of the top colleges in Maharashtra.

JEE-127/360, MHT CET - 168/200 (RANK - 1119) I chose this college as this is one of the top colleges in mumbai and maharashtra as well through the MHT-CET, Morever kj somaiya is nearby to my residence and is one of the few autonomous colleges under the MUMBAI UNIVERSITY. It is certainly one of the best in maharashtra.

Since the college is autonomous the courses are a bit oriented towards the all-round development rather than rigid academics. Many industry elective courses are being introduced because of that students get time to learn outside the books since i am a first year student I do not know much about the research assistance that the college provides.

Since I'm new to college in do not know much about this but nevertheless i have heard about the internship opportunities the college provides from the seniors although not in detail.

The placements are the main reason that attracts the students to enroll in KJ SOMAIYA it is 100 percent for My branch (i.e computers and IT ). Top companies like microsoft, Barclays, JP MORGAN, Rakuten, etc do visit our college.Since it has recently become autonomous the future is certainly bright in respect to placements.

The year begins with ABHIYANTRIKI-OUR ANNUAL TECHNICAL FESTIVAL this happens in the odd semester and is a big event this year scientists from ISRO HAD COME FOR AN EXPO. Next is SKREAM-which is national level sports competition held by our very own college then comes our Annual cultural fest named SYMPHONY which is in the even semester. BIG celebs are invited for the symphony and in between this-there is also the kjsce shield which is an inter departmental competition among st students in various sports.

The fees is around 1.5 lakhs for a year this is a tad costlier than other Mumbai University colleges but still Feasible however students from the lower income groups do get the benefit of various scholarships and grants by the college the fee structure for students from the reserved category is quite less than the above mentioned fees.

Students can get admission under the TFWS SCHEME OF THE GOVERNMENT (Tuition FEE WAIVER SCHEME) NEVERTHELESS the college itself provides various scholarships for students of lower income group like JRD TATA scholarship scheme and other schemes . This facility can be availed by submitting the necessary documents.

I guess the gender ratio is very decent in our college the campus life is always buzzing as students here are always enthusiastic and passionate about everything they do i really love the campus life and the crowd as they are really cool and there are a lot of places for hanging out with friends as the campus is humongous.

Since I stay in mumbai i do not know about the hostel much my friends however state that the hostel mess is neat and clean it is not functional on sundays though however I can say that our college canteen is really great as u get all kinds of stuff and it is one of the cool hangout places.

There are alumni talks during orientation lectures for the first year students as well as during various fests the alumni network is quite strong because of the alumni cell of our college. The seniors very co-operative and we can literally follow their footsteps (not kidding ) they are really interactive and are always there for help.

There are 8 semesters with two unit tests in each semester the college makes use of credit based scoring system the exams r a bit relaxed affair as although the papers are tough you get ample time for studies and also for relaxing moreover our library is really huge and hence students can easily refer to previous year questions and stuff.

The admission process was conducted by DTE. As MHT-CET was restarted after a gap of 3-4 years the admission procedure were delayed a bit. My admission procedure got completed in August 2016 and although the process was hectic,it was smooth.

The faculties are above average I would say as all the faculties have a command over their subjects and have experience with them although some faculties have knowledge but cannot transfer that knowledge into others they do help the students in solving problems such as while submissions, assignments, etc.
