Very good college with some greatest scenic beauties

No bad remarks on any particular person. But my suggestion is laboratories and workshops should have been better. And the campus is not an arranged one. Everything in the campus is hither and thither. Its destroying the look of the college. The gardens should be cleaned every week. And all the teachers should visit their concerned workshops at least once a month to supervise that everything is going well or not there. They should keep eyes in modernizing the college laboratories. A cycle stand should also been made in the college campus as the students faces problems regarding this.

I took JELET - 2015 exam to qualify for the admission in Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College. My rank was 49 ( Branch Rank- Mechanical Engineering ) in General category. I opted for JGEC because from the very beginning I was determined to take entrance in a prominent college. As I knew that JGEC is such one in West Bengal, then I thought for no other college else JGEC.

The course consists of 4 years. In these 4 years you will get all subjects related to mechanical where there is a scope of further study or research is present in the syllabus. The subjects are SOM, THERNODYNAMICS, DOM, KOM, DESIGN, MATERIAL SCIENCE, MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING, OR, POWER PLANT ENGG etc. And electives given here for mechanical engineering are RAC, AUTOMOBILE ENGG, FINITE ELEMENT METHODS, CFD etc. All the subjects are accessible for higher studies.

No I don't know such type of companies who provide internships for particularly for our JGEC. They might come but I am not sure about the same. But I know that some of our students are doning internships with the help of our teachers.

There has been several companies still visited our campus. I am listing them below with my best knowledges - 1.Cognizant Technology Solutions - 3.8 Lakhs per annum 2. Shapoorji Paloonji & Co Ltd - 4.8 Lakhs Per annum3. TCS - 3.5 Lakhs per annum 4. IBM 5. Coca Cola 6. Kreeti Technologies 7. Tech Mahindra 8. WIPRO 9. MN DASTUR and many more. This year almost 100- 120 out of 466 still got placed in several companies. Many companies has scheduled their visit after November and thereafter. The average salary offered to the students here is 3.5 -4 Lakhs per annum. Companies visiting here are mostly preferring non-core students for their selection.

Every year the students union arrange a cultural fest and a techno-management fest. The cultural fest is named as JECLAT which is celebrated in the month of March every year. And the techno-management fest SRISTI is organised in the month of April every year. Out of these two main events tgere are several events celebrated every year like Biswakarma Pujo, Teachers Day, Annual Sports Meet and many more events.

The fee structure is feasible as this is a government engineering college. But the course structure is different for different departments. For Civil, Mechanical and Electrical the fee is least. Its approximately 45000/- for the completion of 4 years for them. But for CSE and ECE its approximately 68000/- for 4 years. And for IT its the most. An IT student have to pay almost 120000/- for 4 years.

There is a branch of SBI is present in our college campus. I don't know anyone's case, but in my case I suffered a lot for an education loan. I did not get enough support from their end. And there are several types of scholarships like SIEMENS, JINDAL, IOCL, MERIT CUM MEANS and many other scholarships are offered to our students.

Gender ratio is almost 15 : 60 in every classes ( average). The workshops are almost old type. It should have been better in most of the cases. All the workshops of mechanical engineering department is lacking modern machines and specimens. Labs are also same types. They also need modernization in order to help the students knowing better. Students from all religion welcome here. There is a unity between all of us that might be we are from different religions but we are all same by JGEC here. There are different clubs are present here such like dance club, sports club, music club etc. Each clubs have their own secretaries. They organises several programs regarding their areas. Out if this there is a great and generous willing is present in our students. Some of the stydents teaches the childrens of nearer areas who are very poor and unable to take tutions by paying fees. And there is CENTRE FOR INNOVATION is present in our college. The centre is helping the students to become a real engineer. They arranges various seminar and presentations and informs the students regarding different programs that are carrying out in different institutions in all over India.There is no political party in this college. Students alwats have belief in themselves that there is no need of political party in this college for their improvement.

Hostel accomodation is largely available here. There are 4 hostels for boys and 1 hostel for girls accomodating approximately 75% of the total intake. All hostel have different messing systems. Hostel rooms are sharing for 1st, 2nd and 3rd year. In 4th year most students gets single room. Its 11,000 per semester per students in hostel mess. And electricity charge and hostel bedding fee is almost a total of 600 per semester.In case of PG the normal rooms starts from Rs 800/-. But the rooms are sharing. For a single room you have to pay Rs 1000/ - to 1500/- per head per month. And fooding charge is almost Rs 2000/- per month.

Our alumnies are very heplful and are trying peoples. They arranges several seminars for their juniors so that we can be prepared for our near future. I have met some seniors who are from 1998 batch to 2012 batch. I am so unlucky that I have not meet my rest seniors. Because after meeting them my view regarding engineering has been changed. Firstly I did not have any idea regarding engineering even after 1 year. But after meeting them I have got advice, ideas, paths to be successful in life. And another is that to do something for our college. They taught me how to be a great person as well as an engineer.

Exams and Labs are scheduled as per the normal schedules like other colleges. But sometimes we have to stay more hours in our college as our teacher takes more extra classes and labs for the students to ensure our better learning. They took two internal assessment before every semester exam to evaluate the students preparation. Every internal consists of 20 marks. 10 marks kept for attendance of the students in the classes. After these internal assesments we had to take on sessional exams means laboratory amd workshop exams. After this our semester exam starts. In every year we had to complete 2 semester exams. One is even and one is odd. Odd semester exam mostly held in the month of December whether even semester exam is held in the 1st week of June. Out of these sometimes some special tests are arranged to test the students ability to adjust in any situation. Overall the exam structure consists of two main semester exam and a total of two internal assessments per exam per semester.

Our faculty are highly qualified and very motivation for all of us. Most of them were students of prominent colleges in their time. Some of our faculties are internationally known. Some are doing great in research fields. They are the masters in their field of subjects. They give their 100% effort for the students so that we, the students can excel in life and do much better.
