A honest review of NITK SURATHKAL by a ECE student

I always wanted to get enrolled in NITK Surathkal as it has its private beach. I applied for NIT Trichy for CSE and ECE too and i could have got into ECE branch in that college but at the last moment I opted out and locked my seat at NITK ,second-best NIT of INDIA with 2020 NIRF RANKING 13th among all the engineering colleges in INDIA. Coding culture is really great in our college which brought us 4th ranking globally in the list of universities with the most accepted students for Google Summer Of Code (GSOC) 2020. I am a Gen-EWS candidate but got admission here through general quota. Admission in this college is basically through JOSSA counselling on the basis of JEE MAINS percentile. In my branch opening rank was 1782 and closing rank 4151 in Gender-neutal open state category while 5301 opening and 6413 closing in Open State female category. My rank was 6280. JOSSA counselling is a online process of allocating colleges based on your maks, choices filled and availability of seats.

I chose this course as I am having special interest in DRDO and satellite communication. Faculty: student ratio in ECE course is around 1:15. We got Dr. Pathipati Srihari for Signals and System Course. He has total 14 years of teaching experience. His academic background:- 1. PhD (ECE) from Andhra University,India ,2012 2. M.S.(CS & SP) University of Plymouth, England, UK, 2002 His areas of interest are Radar Signal Processing, Radar Target tracking, and navigational systems. He recently got best paper award at IEEE Connect-2021. He has published various international journals and got various significant awards in his field. He is a very supportive professor and always try to make everything simple for his students. In every semester, we have 4-5 short quizzes with 3-4 assignments and one mid-sem and end-sem examination. It's not really tough to pass exams if our concept is clear, rather it was more fun for me.

Internship season is on peak right now and seniors are grabbing a lot of oppurtunities. The companies which visited recently are:- 1. Wells Fargo - SDE Intern 2. Oracle India - Project Intern 3. Caterpillar India - Mechanical Intern 4. Microsoft - SDE Intern 5. Dr. Reddy Laboratories - Process Engineer 6. Oracle India - Server Engineer Intern 7. Goldmann Sachs - Summer Analyst 8. Google India - Software Engineering Intern 9. JP Morgan - Software Engineering Intern 10. Bajaj Auto- R&D Intern 11. Sprinkler India -Product Engineer Intern 12. Walmart Labs -Sofware Engineer 13. Uber India - Software Engineer Intern and many others are yet to visit.

Students of 3rd year gets oppurtunity to sit for internships. While students of last year gets to sit for campus placements. The companies which had made the highest no of offers are Oracle India, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Walmart , CISCO Systems, Myntra, VISA Inc. ,Tata Hitachi, Google, Samsung R&D, Citi India, Qualcomm, Arcesium, NVIDIA, Deollite, Paypal, BOSCH, Morgan Stanley, Intel Technology, Flipkart, L&T ,GAIL, Texas Instruments, Caterpillar etc. Highest CTC --- INR 43 LPA Average CTC--- INR 17 LPA In 2020 total students were 1293 among which 977 got placed in the Btech program. I wish to get into Amazon after getting my degree.

Fees in our college are relatively less as compared to other comparable colleges. Our yearly tution fee is around Rs.1,25,000. Our college is very supportive towards students with low income. As I am a EWS student too, I know money matters a lot which selecting any college. In NITK, fee-waiver is provided in three slabs mainly:- 1. Income < 1 Lakh 100% fee waiver 2. Income between 1-5 lakhs 1/3 rd of tution fee 3. Above 5 lakhs no fee waiver And full fee exemption for SC, ST and PWD candidates. This makes our college affordable for everyone. Apart from this our campus has two banks SBI and Canara especially for its students and it is really easy to get loans there at affordable interests. I haven't got any scholarship but my friends got various industry scholarships. Some of them are Foundation for Excellence( FFE) Amount - 40K, Samsung Scholarship. I landed on various campus ambassador programs here in campus with performance based stipend.

I haven't been to campus yet, but yeah that does not mean that we didn't got to know our seniors. We have got really cool seniors here who are always ready to help and share their experience with us. We have around 1,35,000 books, 12K journals and 9K e-books in our library . Engineer is Annual Tech symposium of NITK, to promote technical and managerial enthusiasm. It is held every year in the month of October. It is ranked 2nd best technical fest in South-India with an annual footfall of around 10K+ students from all over India. Incident is annual cultural fest of NITK which is usually held in the month of March every year which is again 2nd largest cultural fest of South-India. Their are a lot of clubs in our college to hone the abilities of its students:- 1. IEEE NITK 2. Baja NITK Racing 3. NITK Racing 4. ACM NITK 5. IET NITK Chapter 6. Rotaract 7. SAE-NITK 8. LSD 9. DDFC 10. Aashraya (NGO) 11. NCC, NSS etc. And lot more sports clubs are there.
