Remarks
First of all IIEST, Shibpur is the nearest college to my hometown, which is under JEE Mains. I only applied for IIEST Shibpur and NIT Durgapur. IIEST was always my first choice. I got chance under OBC and Female-only quota. The JOSAA counseling regulations are the only criteria for admission. The whole admission process was smooth, and the college authorities guided us on each step of the admissions process.
Course Curriculum Overview
Metallurgy and Materials Engineering provides a good scope in higher studies not only within India but also in abroad. That is one of the reasons I decided to go for this course. There are 15 professors in our department and 33 students in our batch. All the professors are very helpful, they teach us very well, clear our doubts, and make sure every student gets the attention they deserve. We have two written examinations in a semester - one Midterm and the final semester. You can easily answer all the questions if you study properly and pay attention to the class.
Internships Opportunities
Students get internships at Tata steel and other core companies. Girls get a chance in the Women of Mettle scholarship program. Students who work under professors also like for various projects and review papers.
Placement Experience
From 3rd year students start to get internships, and from 4th year students can go for campus placement. for our department, many companies visit like, TATA steel, Vedanta, Nippon steel, Cognizant, Crain oil, TCS, INFOSYS, etc There are also plenty of students who go for higher studies in IITs, IIMs, and also abroad.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are 3 types of fees structure according to the annual family income of a student- 1. Annual Family income is above 5 lakhs- those students have to pay full tuition fees. Per semester total fee is approximately Rs.72000 (in normal condition. During this COVID-19 situation, it has been reduced to 65000) 2. Annual Family Income is below 5 lakhs but above 1 lakh- they have to pay (1/3)rd of tuition fees. 3. Annual Family Income is below 1 lakh and SC/ST- full tuition fee waivered Many companies visit our college - like TATA Steel, Nippon Steel, Infosys, Crain Oil, Cognizant, TCS, Vedanta, etc.
Campus Life
Cultural Fest- REBECA Tech Fest- INSTRUO GYANDHARA- Quiz festival OIKOTAAN- music festival METALLUM - Metallurgy department fest and many more... There is a gym, two grounds for football and cricket, a basketball court, a badminton court, a volleyball ground, swimming pool on the college campus. There are also facilities for indoor games like table tennis, chess, etc. Ramanujan Central Library- almost got every book you ever need for your course.
Hostel Facilities
Good hostel facility. Healthy delicious food from the mess. Every student gets a single bed, a set of table and chair, and one small wardrobe. Hostel life is good and enjoyable. within the college campus, there are 17 hostels- 9 multi seated boys' hostels, 5 single seated boys' hostels, and 3 girls' hostel.
