Remarks
In Delhi University, Cut off are released on the Delhi University web portal for different colleges and different courses, if your aggregate percentage for a particular course is above the cut-off provided by the University for a particular College, then you are eligible to join that College. Almost none of the colleges in Delhi University have an interview process except St.Stephen's College. Shri Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College is an off-campus college, but I chose this college primarily because of the course I wanted to study. The college otherwise provides one of the best placements in the entire Delhi University. I applied for other colleges as well like Christ University, but my primary reason for attending Delhi University was because of the exposure one can have here, and it is very near to where I live in comparison to Bangalore, and B.Sc Mathematics(Hons.), the course I am pursuing at DU is one of the most prestigious courses provided by the University.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose B.Sc Mathematics(Hons.) because I particularly like Mathematics, and this course is one of the most prestigious courses provided by Delhi University. The quality of education provided is undoubtedly unmatched. Due to online classes, the sections have not been divided yet, so there are a total of about 80 students in my course for the same year. And there are about 4 Different Mathematical subjects taught and one teacher teaches one subject only. The teachers are highly qualified, a few of them even have done PHD, the teachers are very understanding and friendly. Though I haven't met them physically, even our seniors have told us that the teachers are very understanding and even in online classes, they have taught us in the best way possible. The exams are conducted by Delhi University for all the colleges in DU, and not by the colleges individually. The exam especially for Mathematics generally contains a total of 6 Questions, out of which we have to attempt any 4.
Internships Opportunities
Many different companies provide internship for students studying in my college. Many of the Internships offered are Business Devlopment Intern by different companies. Generally internships' stipend depend on the kind of work required by the company. There are also many internships offered by NGOs and NPOs so they are not paid. Recently, Shine Projects, an online education company was providing internship opportunities as Business Development Intern to students. The intership did not include a stipend but payment was made on the basis of incentives completed.
Placement Experience
The campus placement of my college has one of the best campus placement in Delhi University. The college has its own placement cell which provides job and internship opportunities to students. Students of final year are eligible for placements while others are eligible for internships. The average package of my college is around 4.5 lakhs. Around 50% of students get placements. Companies like Wipro, Decathlon, Tommy Hilfiger, Lido, Calvin Klein etc. come for campus placements. My plans after getting an undergraduate degree are to pursue higher studies.
Fees and Financial Aid
As Delhi University comes under the Central Government, the fees charged for any course in quite nominal in comparison to other private universities. Generally the fees vary from 8000-50000 per year according to the course enrolled. The fees for B.Sc(Mathematics Hons.) is around 17000 for one year. Usually there is not much fee hike and the even if there is such fee hike, the students oppose it and the teachers as well and it is usually brought down. Apart from the college fees, you may be required to buy printouts for your own studying or you can also issue a certain book as recommended by the teachers from College library. Usually the college itself issues different forms for minorities students, so they can fill the form and provide some proof of their minority and can also get fee concessions. The teachers many times provide us with different internship opportunities which might have been forwarded to them by someone else so that students don't just sit ideal.
Campus Life
Usually, the campus life is very good at Delhi University, but not so much for my college. The campus is extremely small, probably one of the smallest campuses in DU. Otherwise, the location is good as nearly every place you visit in Delhi is very close to the college as it is in Central Delhi. Despite having a small campus, there are many different cultural societies as well which are arguably among the good societies of Delhi University. There are also different sports society and you can also enroll in the NCC Society of DU. The library of my college is very good, almost all the books are available as well.
