Entrance Preview

I passed West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination which is must to get admission to any Engineering graduation course in West Bengal. No interview is needed. Just score good in entrance, attain the counselling and get admission.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College is an autonomous college. That means yes they follow a specific university but they are not under that university. All the structure and processes are decide by the college itself. I studied Bachelor Degree in Electronics and Communications, I must say the whole structure and the process is standard and upto the mark. I never felt there are some flaws and it has to be improved.

Internships Opportunities

No, No internship for the bachelor degree. Internships available for Master Degree. They provide good stipends, as much I know Rs 12,000 per month.

Placement Experience

4.5

So basically there were 80 students and 63 among them were placed in various companies like HCL, Wipro, TCS, Ericson. Packages varies from company to company. Remaining students who did not get placed they either want to study further like me or they are below the average.

Fee Structure And Facilities

It is a government institution. So fees are reasonably low. Admission Fees: Rs 12,000 including one semester. Each semester fee is ₹6500 And examination fee 1036 per semester. And hostel fee is 1860 per month including fooding and lodging.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostel rooms were shared. In one room there used be maximum 4 students. In some rooms there was less than 4 students because available hostel seats are more than enough. Rent as I said ₹1860 per month including fooding and lodging. Now lets come about quality of mess food. We used to get 2 tiffins one in morning and one in evening and two meals lunch and dinner.

Exam Structure

Examination Structure is the standard one like all others colleges or IIT's follow. Bunch of class tests, practical tests, viva, 2 internal exams in each semester and one final end semester exam. Class tests usually made us feel hectic, but at some point its was habituated.

Faculty

5

So it's the main part. I think faculties are the main source to to acquire your knowledge in Engineering particularly. Let me be frank, I dont have the capability to judge our respective Faculties. I am just trying to express my personal experience. I must say they are so qualified to clear all your doubts. They are even always ready to help you outside class room.

Placement Experience:

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

Placement Experience:

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

It's my decision from class 12 that I will do civil engineering, so I chose the civil branch, the course curriculum is well and the teaching level is good but the main problem is lab, there is very limited classes for lab, so I think they should improve there.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
