Remarks
pros- one of the best research institutes in India, great faculty, very good facilities given to the students in all arenas , tuition fees in iits for masters (especially MS) is very less compared to other good colleges like IIIT Hyderabad/Delhi/Bangalore ,great placement opportunities almost 100% placement for CSEcons- some times the course structure might be more research oriented (theoritical) and not application based , some professors are really not upto the mark here too so be wise while choosing your guide
Course Curriculum Overview
most of the faculty are top notch in their respective fields of research but some faculty are not upto the mark. i have chosen MS as IIT madras is one of the best research institutes in india and i wanted to get a flavor of research. faculty to student ratio is good enough. Teaching method of the faculty depends on the faculty , if he/she teaches well we dont need to do extra work else we need to depend on online courses as well and yes there are bad teachers here too as not all who are knowledgable can teach. Qualification wise the professors are expected to finish at least one postdoc to be given the position , just PHD isnt enough.
Placement Experience
placements in computer science are the best. almost everyone is placed in the placement season itself and even if they are not placed due to some reason they can enroll for the next year placement with some conditions. The student can sit in placement in the first semester of the last year of their degree. Name a tech giant and it will be in my campus during placement. many of the undergrads even get placed before the placement season. masters students get placed in good research based roles as well.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee for research scholars (MS) is quite less. for Mtech it is expected to increase from now on. as masters students we get stipend of 12400 inr per month so we (research scholars) can pay our fees with our stipend itself. accommodation fee is also very cheap compared to other private institutes. apart from this you also get scholarship opportunities from various tech giants if you prove yourself in your academic
Campus Life
campus life is very good and there are various clubs for hobbies and also for various communities and events are conducted all throughout the year. I never enjoyed more than that in my life ever than the time i spent in my college. All round growth is the focus of them.there are also course called LTAP in order to learn various skills like music, art, dance etc which are conducted during every semester but finding time for them is difficult

Admission
yes one written test and an interview. written test was to the level of gate and covers the gate syllabus entirely and interview is a bit challenging. You need to choose one topic in your field ( mine is computer science ) like Algorithms, DBMS,TOC,OS,NETWORKS etc and you will be grilled in good level of depth on that topic by a panel of professors
