Course Curriculum Overview
Very good. This first semester of college has been great. I have learned many new things that I never thought I would have needed. I have been challenged this first semester, but I am glad to say that I have never felt like something wasn't achievable. In my mechanical class I felt the same way about the rest of my classes, challenged but never over my head.
Placement Experience
companies took students: Exxon Mobil, TCS system engineer, Maruti Suzuki, Royal Enfield, Mahindra & Mahindra, Renault Nissan, Tata Motors, Elgi Equipments.Boeing etc. came but didn't shortlist from M.Tech.It depends on the individual branch of mechanical department.Design, thermal 100%Decreasing order of placement in mechanical departmentDesign>thermal>cad/cam>material science>production/weldingM.S. in design and thermal is also 90-95% placement. Rest will try offcampus and get placed or go for startups
Fee Structure And Facilities
Stipend 12k per month This first semester of college has been great. (i) Financial assistance in the form of Half-Time Teaching Assistantship (HTTA) at the rate of ` 12,400/- p.m. (tenable for a maximum period of 24 months) will be awarded to Indian Nationals doing the M.Tech. Programmes, subject to Institute rules. HTTA students are required to assist the department for 8 hours of work per week related to academic activities of the department, such as laboratory demonstration, tutorials, evaluation of assignments, test papers, seminars, research projects, etc.
Campus Life
You should make sure to remain hydrated during the day; that is the most important thing. Chennai weather is something to cope up with. The temperature at the campus is normally 3-4 degrees lower than the rest of the city because of the trees here. IIT Madras is a place which gives students the rich and valuable exposure to multiple avenues related to academics, co-curricular and extracurricular activities. Each student discovers their true interests and passion and pursues the same. The various activities and occasions associated with the institute not only aim to bring the dormant skills of the students to the surface but also to train and let them experience organisational and leadership attributes. And this doubtlessly is the reason behind the success of the IITians and the peaks of excellence they often scale in any field of specialisation they choose to enter and explore, be it academics, industry, sports, arts, literature or politics.

Yes. Around 5 to 6 members would be present in the interview panel. for me there were 8 members, including HoDEach one of them bombards with questions.They want to see if you are really interested in research. They also see if you are determined about selecting the area {example Machine design.}
