Remarks
The School of Open Learning (SOL) is a constituent college of the University of Delhi. It was established in 1962 and do offer courses like commerce, humanities and science. I have only applied to SOL because I want to pursue BCom. The admission went smooth and easy. I didn't have to face any difficulties. I have availed of the OBC quota for admission. You need to have your documents like the 12th mark sheet, caste certificate etc with you at the time of admission in SOL. If you want to take admission in SOL then 45% marks are required and then you will be eligible for it. At the time of my admission, everything went good and smooth. When you will pay the fee then after few months you will get the books. There was no counselling happened.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is informative and simple. I have chosen BCom because I was a commerce student and wanted to know more about it that's why. The faculty members are not good. They won't help you out. Whenever you ask for help they will say try to do it by yourself. The teaching method is not good. The teachers are qualified but don't know how to teach well. The student ratio is pretty good. But the disappointing thing is faculty members. The exam is held every year and it's not difficult if you study well.
Internships Opportunities
I don't have much idea about the internship opportunities available in SOL. The reason being is that companies usually don't come to the campus for internship purposes. Very minute chances are there that any internship will come and if it comes, then it can be easily checked from the official University website. The placement department furnishes all information about the opportunities available either for paid/unpaid internships. The internship facility is not good in SOL.
Placement Experience
Students of the final year become eligible for placement and also students are informed by the university website. Many companies visited last year and all are from the corporate sector like KPMG, Genpact, banks like ICICI, Axis etc. The percentage of students getting placement is 40%. All I know is the highest package was 3 Lacs and the average package was 2 Lacs. It's not great but it's okay. My plan after getting the degree is to pursue my further studies. I want to do a job also and wants to gain some knowledge and experience from it.
Fees and Financial Aid
As compared to regular college of Delhi University, School of Open Learning has lower fee structure. Different courses have different fee structure. I have paid 11500 something for BCom for 3 years it means 3600 something for 1 year which is not bad at all. The fee structure is very affordable. Students can pursue any course of their choice. The scholarship opportunity is there in SOL. It offers merit based scholarships for students belonging to SC/OBC/ST category. So we can say scholarship opportunity is there.
Campus Life
Campus life is not that good according to me. Infrastructure of School of Open Learning (SOL) is really good. Greenery is everywhere. The campus is surrounded by beautiful trees and plants. Also WiFi facility is there but doesn't work properly. The canteen is good and the food quality is nice. The sports ground is also there but it's very small but has proper equipment facility but there is no coach or trainer. Availability of books and journals are good and in a good amount. SOL has a library facility. The amenities in the classroom is nice. Classrooms are bigger in size. Students can only go to college on Saturday and Sunday. There is no annual fest or tech fest for SOL students nor there are any extracurricular activities. There is no social group for students run by students.
