Entrance Preview

I wrote the ComedK exam and secured a rank of 4200. I chose PESIT because of it's reputation and ranking among engineering colleges in Bangalore and also based on the feedback I received from seniors. I loved machines since a young age and I loved to tinker with them as I was very curious to see how they worked. Therefore, mechanical engineering was the branch I chose to pursue as it aligned with the interests.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The curriculum is set by VTU which is a central university located in Belgaum. The curriculum is updated every few years to include the latest updates to the technology and syllabus. The curriculum is very well planned with it flowing nicely from one semester to the next to ensure you, the student, is able to understand very well and you have the fundamental knowledge before moving on to the advanced courses.

Internships Opportunities

The college does not have a guaranteed internship. However, the professors and the management have good relations with a lot of companies and they will assist you with getting an internship if you ask. The location of the college is also very close to both the IT hub as well as the manufacturing industries which makes it easier to get internships at these firms.

Placement Experience

5

Every year, the college holds a career fair for placements where a lot of companies attend. The companies I can remember are Accenture, Infosys, IBM, Timken, Saint-Gobain among others. They conduct all placement activities including interviews on campus and hire people. As far as I know, in my batch everyone was hired or got admission into prestigious universities for higher studies both in India and abroad.

College Events

5

There was one fest every semester. The intra college, inter-departmental fest and the inter-college fest, Maaya. The intra college fest had both technical and non technical events with each branch trying to win. It was a lot of fun, as we had to design t-shirts, and try to put up the best decorations and come up with innovative ways to cheer on fellow students.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is set by the ComedK board. The fee paid depends on the exam written. The CET fee is approximately 35000, the ComedK fee is aorund 1.2 Lac and the management quota fee is around 6 Lac donation. The fee is not set by the college as such and they don't charge exorbitantly for the hostel (I did not stay in hostel so I do not know the exact figure).

Fees and Financial Aid

No, there was no formal scholarship program offered by the college. However, they did have a tie up with some banks, (SBI at the time I was studying) which offered loans at a slightly lower interest rate.

Campus Life

3.5

Campus life was good. All students joining are very friendly and it is easy to mingle and make friends. There are a lot of good hangout places nearby for the after college snack or the occasional movie. The gender ratio in mechanical engineering was poor with about 4 girls in a class of 70. However, in the other branches, the gender ratio was good.

Hostel Facilities

4

I did not stay in the hostel, therefore I do not know the exact figure, however I have eaten the mess food on multiple occasions and it is not as bad, when compared to some other colleges. The hostel rooms are shared by 3 people and each room has an attached bathroom. The hostel has enough rooms to accomodate all students admitted and therefore there was no necessity for any PGs.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni network is good. There are a few websites for alumni as well as a facebook group where alumni are active and provide assistance with finding jobs or giving advice about career and life.

Exam Structure

Every semester had 3 internal exams with the best two counting for the final marks. We had 3-4 lab sessions a week. It was not too hectic and also not too chilled out. There was a good balance between free time and studying or conducting experiments. The internal exams were 25 marks each and the lab exams were for 100 marks. There was also a viva which was worth 20 marks.

Admission

The admission process is pretty straightforward. After the exam results are announced, the ComedK conducts a counselling session where you are given choices based on your rank and availability of college. Once you choose one, they block a seat for you. You have to submit copies of a few documents like previous marks cards and ComedK results sheet.

Faculty

4.5

The faculty is very knowledgeable in their respective subjects. All of them hold Masters, PhDs or other advanced degrees. They teach well, plan the semester well and are very approachable. They are always eager to help students, be it with doubts and the subjects or any projects or research the student is carrying out.
