Remarks

It was the best moment of my life when WBJEE rank flashed on my computer screen. I was aware of the cutoff of Jadavpur University and did know that with this rank I can surely get Electrical Engineering department. But up to 3rd round of WBJEE counselling, my branch was Chemical Engineering. I talked to several seniors (they are very helpful) on the phone and they assured me that I will get Electrical Engineering in the Spot round. I was getting some 5 years courses in IIT BHU but left that seeing the placements and ROI of Jadavpur University. Admission to Jadavpur University is solely based on WBJEE Rank. For outsiders (state other than WB) there is a 10 percent seat quota of the total general seat, so it's quite tough for people to get in JU. But if u get more than 100 marks in the WBJEE exam then there is sure shot selection.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Speaking of choosing Electrical Engineering, well, to be honest, I must say I didn't choose, this is what I got with my rank. Nevertheless, I like my branch (compromise). In class 12th I liked Electrodynamics so it became handy for me to choose Electrical Engineering. The faculties are very good here, they are very well versed with the subjects and almost everyone is a research scholar. Faculty student ratio is 1:10 I guess. Term exams are held in time in spite of this pandemic.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

Many companies visit campus for internships. Big brands such as Amazon, Microsoft, Uber, Hotstar, etc visit campus and take a lot of students for internships. Amazon gives 80k / months, Hotstar gives 100k/month and such offers. We also have chances for a research internship in or outside the college. Many students opt for a research internship in IITs and since professors have close links with many big institutions their recommendation letters are never unapproved.

Placement Experience

5

Placement in Jadavpur University is extremely good, it's well above some top NIT and some new IITs also. Students become eligible for internships from the 2nd year (yes there are those talented students also ) but mostly students grab internship opportunities in their 3rd year. Many big companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, Samsung, CodeNation, uber, Flipkart, etc visit campus for both internship and full time job opportunities. Most students convert their internship into PPO. Government companies such as GAIL, SAIL, BHEL, IOCL, etc also visit for campus placement but they require very high CGPA for their selection. Total 100+ companies visited campus in the 2020-2021 session and the highest package was 65 LPA which was grabbed by Electrical Engineering students in Atlassian. There was 90 percent placement with many students having more than 1 offer.

Fees and Financial Aid

The best thing about this college is its fees. You have to pay only 11k rupees for 4 years course, can u imagine it's less than ur Netflix subscription plan. Only one branch that is Information Technology has a fee of 30k/year, only because it's a new branch here. Talking about scholarships, there is plenty of scholarship you can avail in your 1st year. Some of them are the FEE scholarship, Siemens Scholarship, and College's fee reduction policy for economically backward students, etc.

Campus Life

4.5

Sanskriti is the annual cultural fest of Jadavpur University and is one of the biggest cultural fests in East India. Apart from this, we have our techfest Srijan which is held every year in March, and we have a lot of activities at this time. Jadavpur University has a central library with a lot of books, weekly journals, and research papers produced by the super talented professors of the university. We also have departmental libraries at our respective departmental blocks. The classroom is optimal with proper lighting and cooling facilities and we have state of the art laboratories for experiments. We have clubs for almost everything in this college, students can join any club of their choice and enhance their communication abilities and learn new skills.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostel facilities are not provided for everyone. It is given only to those students who are financially poor and whose Home is away from the city. So from what I have heard from seniors is that the hostel facilities are good. And the fees are too less, u only have to pay for ur food coz the total Room rent and Electricity bill is 25 rupees per month. The hostel is provided after an interview and thorough checking.

Placement Experience:

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

It's my decision from class 12 that I will do civil engineering, so I chose the civil branch, the course curriculum is well and the teaching level is good but the main problem is lab, there is very limited classes for lab, so I think they should improve there.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
